if thats Angel she killed, im not sad. Peopl've said Twilight was experimented on or she was mortally injured, they saved her head, but her body now has a mind of its own, and she's just along for the ride.

Why would someone force Twilight to kill a bunny? And why would they see fit to attach her to a robotic body in order to do so?

Because a robotic body is easier to control than a regular one.
Makes it easier to tell it exactly what to do and leave the head to have mixed thoughts about the outcome.

But if they're just going to tell her body what to do without her permission anyway, why attach her to the body at all? Also, what does Celestia think of this?

It's in order to see how her psyche would react to others dying by her supposed doing.
I'm not quite sure if celestia has been informed about twilights current whereabouts,
could be a top classified project.

You know, I could actually see Twilight doing something like this to herself of her own accord, accept it would be just her brain that was left. Anyway, I'm sure Celestia has noticed she's missing at any rate, or she will once she goes for a while without hearing from her. Unless she was responsible.

If celestia is on to them,
I guess there is nothing to do but terminate the project.

Hide all the evidence, silence every witness

Except Celestia is the ruler, and doesn't need evidence to have them all dealt with. I'm pretty sure if her personal student and good friend turns up dead, there will be hell to pay, whether or not there is solid evidence of their crimes.

But again, I think Twilight might willing do something similar to herself if she would still retain free will.

FOR SCIENCE!

Airship-King In reply to robotwo [2012-09-27 19:02:11 +0000 UTC]

EXACTLY!

So, what do you suppose the reactions of her friends would be if they found out she had, say, turned herself into a brain in a jar?

robotwo In reply to Airship-King [2012-09-27 19:04:25 +0000 UTC]

I think she'd miss out on a lot of stuff you can't really do without the physical interraction.

I also guess pinkie would fill her jar up with soda or something.

Airship-King In reply to robotwo [2012-09-27 19:12:01 +0000 UTC]

Not if she used her magic to make the jar float! And yeah, I can totally see Pinkie doing that as a prank!

Not sure how the magic functions without the horn,
or if there's some deeper organs channeling that.

Airship-King In reply to robotwo [2012-09-27 19:26:21 +0000 UTC]

Well, there are four possibilities. Other organs that are part of the brain and are responsible for handling magic, keeping her horn with her so she can still do magic, using specialized devices attached to her jar to perform magic, or not thinking things through before putting her brain in a jar and not being able to do magic anymore.

Okay, who put Twilight's head on a robot body and why?

Wait, don't tell me, the answer to that last question is Science. But why is Twilight's head on a robot body? Mortal injury? Kidnapped in the name of Science? Help me out here.

Bunnies did what bunnies do and ended up in surplus.
Science was sent on its way to find a solution for said problem.

Equestria has the leading tech when it comes to prosthetics, but haven't done any major research in AI.
But the engineered body requires a central processor that can quickly learn and maintain any complex sequences etc.

So a pony was picked with a higher intellect and a faster learning curve.
Then they sedated said pony, dragged her along, disposed of some tissue and VOILA! SCIENCE!

to be brutally honest I don't know >w>

I figured you had no idea, but I enjoy the explanations for these sorts of things.

Isn't there an easier, cheaper, less Science-intensive way to control the bunnysplosion? Wait, scratch that. To shirk Science is death.

Did they have to put Twilight's whole head on that thing? It'd probably be a lot less horrible for civilians to look at if they just put her brain in it.

Why was someone as smart and powerful as Twilight necessary? Are there really enough ponies like her for it to work, or is she just a high-performance experimental model to test what would be practical to carry over into the mass production versions and what isn't?

Wait, lemme guess: the bunny suppression is just a cover for the unstoppable cyborg army Equestria is keeping on standby in the event of war. Which could explain why Celestia was willing to let her favorite student get thrown under the Bus of Science...

But Twilight's gonna be pissed...

Well you know finding a jar of the proper size to hold the brain can be tricky and it's so fragile.

So why not just use what's already there?
The thing is Twi was TOO smart, she knew too much, she had seen things she shouldn't have seen.
She had to go

So, they went through all that trouble and just killed her? I find that hard to believe. As long as she's there, and they have the technology, why not take that brain of hers and hook it up to the facility's computer network? Would give it an appreciable processing power boost...

Then again, in the event Celestia doesn't know what they did to her faithful student, Twilight's strong enough (and strong willed enough) to subvert enough of the network long enough to send a message to her teacher, telling her what was done to her. But if Celestia does know, does she care enough about Twilight to disconnect her from the facility and hook her up to Canterlot's grid? Get her closer to home, so to speak?

"I was told... I was promised things..."
"{They were creating an army of killbots to control the rabbit population. They were injecting ponies with parasprite DNA just to see what would happen.}"
"What happened?"
"{All I could make out was that that level of the facility had to be vitrified.}"
"..."
"{Filled with molten glass.}"
"... I handed you over to those monsters... You would be well within your rights to never forgive me, Twilight Sparkle."
"{You're forgiven. I'm too drained after all that to hold a grudge... even a grudge we both think I should hold.}"
"Is there... anything else I can do for you?"
"{Tell the others where I am. I want them to know I'm still... alive.}"

For some reason that dialogue makes me think of other cases of unwilling mind transplantation.
Like in Portal 2 for example

As you can tell I haven't really made up any backstory to any of my pics,
they're simply improvised doodles I sit down and do whenever I'm bored.

The things they depict usually depends on what music I'm listening to,
mixed with whatever imagery my caffeine aided mind is pushing forth.

I know. And incidentally, the DNA injections and the vitrification was taken from Portal 2.

So, how do you think this cyberpunk-y AU's versions of Twilight's friends and family would take what happened to her?
