Description
The morning started early for Lily Parks, Jo's little sister who had recently moved from Virginia to Oregon to live with her sister while studying Veterinarian medicine. She worked with Frank James, her brother-in-law, and attended the local college. However, summer time offered her free moments to spend on horse back and explore the Rockin' J trails. Lily made her way through the mare barn, greeting the few mares they had and occasionally stopping to rub a hand along their necks before continuing on. Once she reached Daisy, her sister's horse, she smiled and offered the mare a carrot, "Hey sweet girl, you ready to go out ridin'?" she cooed to the mare who burred softly in response, munching on the treat.

Once the mare finished the treat, Lily slid open the stall door and hooked the lead onto her halter, then lead her out of the stall to the crossties. Once the mare was tethered to the cross ties, she jogged down to the tack room, grabbed a tack box of brushes and a hoof pick, then returned to the yellow mare. She set about grooming her, humming quietly while she worked. It didn't take long before she had the mare saddled and was leading her out of the barn. Once in the open, she swung up on the mare's back and headed out onto the trails.

Daisy picked her way along the trail, watching each step and making sure she didn't step somewhere that would cause her to stumble and pitch her rider onto the ground. Lily ran her hand along the mare's neck softly, praising her for being the sure-footed, maternal mare that she was.
