Description
My first animation ever! It took 28 frames and longer than expected. Any tips or critiques are welcome. And no, I have no idea why I decided to make the ball purple.
This was done for Basic Animation at
Time taken: an ungodly 4-5 hours

I'm not in the animation class, I'm in some others, but it looks like alot of fun! Great job! ^^

By the way - how was the tutorial? Was it easy enough to understand?

The 1st part of the tutorial was very easy to understand. The pictures helped a TON and I loved that you explained why we were using several features, instead of saying: hey - put the setting to this because of reasons.
The 2nd part took a little more to work out. I had an easier time of it from reading many animation books as a child. I might have added how to determine how far apart to space things so it looks natural. On the other hand, adding and taking frames away through trial and error certainly helped me get used to animation on PS that much faster.
Maybe as an extra tutorial (because you totally don't do enough work already) have some tips of how to organize and plan an animation? I just sorta dove in, but I wish I had planned better for naming, spacing and whatnot. I know I've seen things like this: [link] when professionals make cartoons, but I still can't figure out what it's for.

It was a quick one, I hope that helps you out for future assignments!

Wah! I didn't actually expect you to make it tonight! O.o I'll definitely give it a good read through tomorrow, but for now, bedtime. I gotta open tomorrow. :3

Yeah, I decided that since I had time now - and you seem to have more experience with animation that a lot of the other students, they might have a lot more trouble trying to do the assignment without it.

^^ Thanks! That helps a lot, I hadn't thought to include those things, I'll make a little side tutorial as soon as I can!
~ That thing you linked, is sort of a visual timeline of where frames/how many frames exist within a certain amount of time (I've never seen on quite like that though). It's also very useful for designating key frames and in-between frames in a more linear way than just drawing them all out first (we'll go over that next week, actually), so it's basically a planning tool for your animations. Here's a simpler (and more common) look at what those look like: [link]
Would it help you out if I included that sort of chart with my tutorials?

Very good! I'm impressed.
I can definitely feel the weight of the pendulum, and the motion is very smooth. I can tell that you have gotten the hang of timing your pendulum to be believable, and I'm sure you understand better how adding and taking away frames affects the timing within animation.
Animation does take a while - especially when you're very dedicated. But now that you've gotten the hang of the way frames and such work in Photoshop and exporting your files I'm sure that it wont take quite that long in the future. ~ Just for reference, it took me about the same amount of time to get the pendulum right the first time I did it, but now I could probably get one put together in about 10-15 minutes if not less. So the more you practice and the better you understand the principles behind animation the faster things go.
