Missouri State Penitentiary, Jefferson City Missouri. May 4th 2016.

There were 40 executions conducted in this chamber from 1938 until 1989. I believe there were four times when two convicts were executed on the same day here, but only twice were two executions done at the same time using both of the chairs. One of those times the convicts were Bonnie B. Heady (the only woman executed in the gas chamber) and Carl Austin Hall. Heady and Hall had kidnapped and murdered 6-year-old Bobby Greenlease. The 1953 Greenlease kidnapping was one of the most famous kidnappings in American history, second only to the 1932 Lindbergh kidnapping.

Part of the story involved the Coral Court Motel near St. Louis, so this has a Route 66 connection as well.
