14 years ago, deviantART was born. 12 years ago (more or less), i signed up. I have told you about my first steps before , so i'm not going to bore you with it all again. Instead i'll add a few thumbs to some very special deviations and talk about those…

Let's begin with Winamp skins. It was because of wallpapers and skins that i discovered dA all these years ago. Nucleo (the one on the left) was a skin i've used for a couple of years, and ASCII-Amp (right) is just too cool not to share.

But Winamp skins wasn't the only fascinating thing about dA back then; icons was another. The Dent icons (left) was one of the first sets i've used for quite a while – and even made my own ones. And i've been using Buuf (right) pretty much non-stop and on every computer i owned since i stumbled upon it – i just love it so much that i still can't seem to get rid of it.

I've been drawing my whole life, but never anything quite as elaborate as this. dA opened my eyes and showed me what was possible, and i finally had to try stuff like this myself.

Over the years, people have dedicated stuff to me, and even drawn things specifically for me. Drawings like these:

And finally, there are a few pieces that i've collected over the years that continue to blow my mind whenever i look at them. Here's a small selection:

Happy Birthday, deviantART!

Been a long time since I skinned anything, OS or apps. One less thing to procrastinate over, I suppose...

That zoggles pixel art brings back happy memories, though. I've always had a soft spot for the pixels, going back to my 8-bit computer days in the 80s.

Yeah, i'm not that much into skinning anymore either. Changing the desktop/dock icons is usually as far as it goes. With one prominent exception: i did write my own skin for Firefox – from the ground up no less

Me too. I'm glad there are so many "retro" style video games out now that harken back to these times.

You should! Would be interesting to see if the break changed the experience of drawing for you

More than anything, i guess, is the feeling of having accomplished something great. I haven't really had that in a long while*; and a drawing that i spent 14+ hours on usually gave me that. You don't get that feeling with photos. I don't, at least.

* Well, i just did, actually, when i finished decorating one of my walls at home. That felt good

Beside doodles i haven't really drawn anything in years either. It's a bit sad, because it's fun. And like you said. It's feels awesome, when you finished something you spent quite some time for.

Anything special you added to your walls? Or just a bit of fancyness?

I sort of made a collage. I had found so much awesome Princess Leia fanart the other day, and i thought, "wow, that's so cool, i have to make something with this". And i did, but it ended up being quite a bit of work.

Here, take a look: sta.sh/0xbaefbt3m6

Looks good!
Haha, yeah even things that seem simple first can take quite some time to get done

Thanks!
Indeed. I had the glorious idea to stitch those prints together with some string, which did not take long at all

Yes, i am old – especially in terms of deviantART-years
But seriously, most of these "old" deviations left a lasting impression on me, that's why i featured them here.
