Description
As I continue my path to completing my book "Horizon Eras: Reemergence", I'm going over my original maps. This is the second continent of the story, and I've two more to finish.Having a reference book has certainly made a difference. Since the book template will be 9"X6", I had to remove some labels, and shortened many of those that remain, lest the map becomes cluttered with them.
....
While I'm at it, I'll tell you about the marked locations in my book.
The Pilgrimage Sites
These locations are marked by black circles with white outlines. These designated locations are considered to be of historic significance, and are thus destinations for the Historic Pilgrimage, which serves as Horizon's Rite of Passage to Adulthood.
Tower of Ambiguity: A wondrous stronghold like none other, the Tower of Ambiguity features bizarre properties that disregard spatial logic. The tower was built with 1,000 floors, and it features a balcony on top where pilgrims look upon Death Valley with solemn remembrance of the battles fought here.
Lillybell Village: One of two populated villages along the marsh of Imp River, Lillybell Village is named for a special flower that is unknown anywhere else. The sacred power within these silvery flowers aided Auberon’s fight against Zombie Lord.
Fort Willow: A hotly contested site of battle between Auberon and the Visionary of Iron Village, as well as the birthplace of the Atua. Now a thriving group of people make their homes within the stronghold, and they enjoy regular access to all kinds of goods, as Fort Willow is the hub of commerce across the whole continent.
Iron Village: A settlement of former slaves to a Visionary, their lives depend on the trading caravan to deliver precious goods to them. Those who visit Iron Village have an appalling report that defies all reason. Like Death Valley, this site is also an Elemental Dead Zone. The necrotic works of the Dark Overlords killed the possibility for life in this place. Were it not for the old core in the stronghold, which serves to heat the ground, the inhabitants would've frozen to death long ago.
Other locations of Interest
Port Incognito: a settlement built by the Dark Overlords. The entire foundation and all the structures within are made from a red substance that feels slightly gel-like. This settlement never suffers damage from the yearly earthquakes and tsunamis, so long as they follow the protocol the Dark Overlords ordered them to. Every building is designed to be sealed air tight, and the settlement's layout contains pathways that channel all floodwaters out.
Shade Village: another settlement built originally by the Dark Overlords, it's positioned directly behind the Tower of Ambiguity. The tower's shadow eclipses the village for half the day, hence the name. The tower itself protects the village from tsunamis, and the people are well familiar with building techniques that allow them to infinitely repair their wooden homes after each earthquake. It helps that the earthquakes that happen here are never deadly.
Plateau of No Return: at the top of this mountain is a natural gate that connects to another world, one called MageStar. It was through this natural gate that the Mystic Knight entered upon the world when it was ruled by the Dark Overlords of Scepter. Extremely few ever attempt to climb it.
Secluded Hills: a mild-mannered pill of hills that lies to the east of Port Incognito. The location features many tricky caves. In ages long past, the caves would be flooded when a powerful earthquake brought in a flood of seawater. This hasn't happened in hundreds of years.
Imp River: the primary source of water in the marshy landscape that dominates the middle portion of Resolve. Two villages eek out their living here, those being Lillybell and Eel Villages.
Eel Village: Takes its name from the abundance of eels that dwell in that section of the river. The village elder is bonded to a Naga Atua.
Kappa Ruins: all that remains of the once great and terrifying stronghold of Kappa is an empty shell and broken fragments. When Auberon and Solaria liberated the world from the hands of the Dark Overlords, the river villagers scrapped the stronghold for as much building material as they could extract from it. They also accidentally destroyed the most valuable pieces of Dark Overlord technology, in their ignorant eagerness.
Tropic Village: a coastal village that is excessively hot. The waters nearby are unsuitable to build a port, so very few pilgrims ever visit this out-of-the-way place. Their most precious export are the pineapples they farm.
Spike Mountain Range: a jungle wilderness is the backyard of the people of Tropic Village. Among the peaks and thick foliage dwells a queen among beasts, who holds claim to unnatural power.
Port Tidal: despite being a port, the people live well away from the coast. They've lived in fear of Leviathan, Servant of the Dark Overlords, for many generations. Auberon's victory hasn't abated their concerns. It may be just as well, at least for the time being.
Forest of Illusions: a magical forest with a magical protection. Those that enter this hallowed place will find themselves disoriented, and will eventually find their way back to the outer edges. This forest's special protection was erected by the Mirage Elemental, and it persists past the Elemental's lifetime by working with the lives of the trees. The protection is effectively permanent, so long as the trees live.
Death Valley: former domain of Zombie Lord, a Servant of the Dark Overlords. There used to be a settlement down in the valley, which was called Valley Village. Very few remember that anymore. The buildings still stand there, but the whole region is permanently an Elemental Dead Zone, thanks to Zombie Lord's necrotic abominations. Nothing can grow there, it never rains, the wind never blows, and even the night sky appears dismal. It's a dead land of perpetual cold.
Haylite Desert: named for the abundance of the mineral halite at the surface, this desert is white as snow from all the salt. There are three oases across this wasteland, but even so, one must join a caravan to have any chance of making it all the way through to the pilgrimage site, Iron Village. The river that borders this desert's north and east is loaded with a deadly amount of salt.
