that's a lee-metford rifle, it was replaced by the Lee-enfield at the begining of the 20th century but remained in service in ome units during the second world war.

It is a Lee-enfield, My mistake, it is the earlier Magizine Lee Enfield, as a WW2 reenactor i'm more use to the Short Magizine Lee Enfield and no4 Mk1 Lee Enfields

Yeah, the guy was giving a demonstration of quite a few different guns, which seemed strange considering it was a "zulu war" display.

I expect it was more of a boer wars display.

I just checked my bro's photos, and it was aparently a "1879 living history group". I can't remember exactly what they were saying at the time, all I remember is them going through a lot of guns, probably saying how they changed through the years or something. Here's some more pics of it on my brother's page: [link]

Very accurate my friend. That's one of the original Enfiled rifles. During WWI, British soldiers used them to their fullest potentional. At one battle, the Germans thought they were up against semi-autos.

At first I was wondering what rifle was, but it is a really old Lee Enfield, before the familiar SMLE.

Love this, but it would not have been used in the Zulu wars, witch happened in the 1870's. The Lee Enfield was invented in 1895 if I remember correctly, but it was defiantly right a the end of the 19th century.

Still very cool. It was that gun that wowed the great powers in the Boxer Rebellion.
