These are... surprisingly comfortable! lol!Top band:
Craft foam! I made a pattern, sketched it out on the craft foam, made dents in the craftfoam using a ball-point pen, painted it with acrylic, put a layer of latex over it for that leather look, and added to pins. :3
Bottom:
Same thing, except I hand-sewed the threads in there and added Nashua Tape for those metal pieces. Woo!
Another part of the costume done.. lots more to go. D:

I bought it at a local costume shop. Luckily for you, it's halloween season. There's bound to be a costume shop nearby.

Michael's craft store. They have a wide selection of paints. I just compared it to a bunch of pictures.

Look for the metalic kind. (not spray paint... unless you can find the color you need, then by all means).

That's awesome congrats and u are very welcome I was looking on images on how to make Lightning's boots found your pic and it led me to some of your other pic. lol I want her costume but I don't want to spend crazy amounts of money lol if u don't mind me askingΒ since Β u made her whole costume by your self what was the total cost of everything was just wondering around the range of money I would need for it lol u don't have to answer that if u don't want to I know it may be kind of personal question lol well thanks for the picture Have a nice day!

I probably spent around $150 for the supplies. I don't remember exactly. This costume is old and retired, so it's been a while since I've had to recall the details. Just remember to wait for sales or use coupons. Another money saving tip i can give you is to make patterns out of newspaper or muslin fabric before you use your expensive fabrics. Messing up with your vinyl is devastating to your wallet. D=

I was just wondering if you you used a liquid.. also when I went to a craft store the only kind they had, it transfers it's off white color, not transparently.

Oh. Yeah. I used about 1 liquid layer. I spread it with my finger so it was all even instead of "painted on". Β The kind I had was a skin color. One layer of latex is usually pretty clear.

Ok. I'm jealous. And you may have solved yet another item on the cosplay for me of "What to make those armbands with?!"
So far, my shoulderguard just needs some minor tweaking and baking/painting. And I ended up getting the cell phone strap of Lightning's necklace and going going to take the charm off and put it on a silver necklace. I couldn't afford the necklace. ;~;

I'll agree to that. I ended up making pretty good shoulder guards for my Genesis (FFVII) cosplay to cover up the cardboard frame. Gave it a bit of a leathery look too now that I think about it.
I guess a trip to Michael's is in the near future!
