Description
This is a piece I wanted to do for as they did me an amazing piece of art and in return I wanted to do the same back... Well I don't think this is as amazing as what I got given but I sure as hell am happy with this and how it turned out. Think I should colour it guys? Her name is Yomi, a character who actually does not have any images of her prior, so I had to work with a fresh mindset with this and it was alot of fun as I got the freedom to interpret what she looks like. Thanks *Ember-of-Roses for the opportunity, it was great to work like this!
Original was sketched by Pencil on Paper, then transfered and tidied up on Photoshop CS3.
Character owned by *Ember-of-Roses

Its an amazing piece! I especially like how you handled the anatomy and the details are also defined. The only issue I see is with her hair, you handled it quite nicelt but I think you should have added a little more depth, there is too much white area visible. Plus her right eye is bigger than the left one when it should be smaller, of course, I'm just finding fault here Great work!

Thanks very much! I have begun to fix these little issue through colouring, and already sorted the eye out now! Surprised now looking back on it I didn't notice first time! Cheers for the comment

I really like how you did her boots, the lacing is sooo hard to draw ;_; I think your anatomy is very well done, too. I love the detail you put into this, like her eyes, the folds in her clothes, and again, those BOOTS.
Great job!

People seem to really like the boots with this which is pretty awesome! Not often they come out the way I like em to but looks like this one time they have come out okay! Just hope when they are coloured they keep up and remain just as cool. Thanks for the comment

Very nice! She has a very sweet expression, and the anatomy is just lovely. The legs are wonderful, and the way you have illustrated her boots is excellent as well. As a whole, I think that this drawing is lovely, and agree with everyone else that the coloured version would be excellent.
In terms of critique, there are a few things I see. I agree with *sugarpuff17 that the hand on her hip appears a bit too small. Lovely rendering, mind you, but the size is just off by a little. I think that the same issue is actally accuring with her left eye. As it is furthest away from the viewer, it should appear smaller(or at least more smooshed from side to side) than the eye closest to us.
I also think that the image would be stronger if you varied your line weights a little more. This kind of illustrative work gains a lot from a more dynamic variance in the thickness of lines. I do see that you already have some variance, but I think the piece would benefit from even more, especially in the areas cast in shadow(i.e. under her chin, her underarm, under the sweater around her waist, etc.).
As I said, the piece itself is lovely! I really hope you do colour it in the end, as I think that it is a good start to what could be a wonderful coloured illustration. <3

Thanks for the comment! I am glad you think the legs look okay, I thought this would be a tricky area considering the jumpsuit is very baggy so glad they came out alright. The coloured version is en route.
In terms of the colouring, I have taken on board critique from people that is easy enough to change so I have adjusted the hand size and made it look less wrinkly, and adjusting the eye (surprised I missed this first time!).
Line work is not my strongest point so I will keep this in mind. Is there any good places to look to gain some more insight into creating a stronger Dynamic finish with lineart?
Thanks again, I apologise for the late response, been a busy holiday period!

I think her head is too big; at least two heads should fit in the torso, three heads to the crotch. The average female body is about eight or nine heads. One head usually ends at the nipples, for example. Vary the lines and values in her hair so it looks as dynamic as the boots. The ear may be too small; usually they begin at the nostrils and end at the eyebrows. The hand is also too small for her face; a hand usually covers 3/4 or more of the face.
I like her simple outfit and her body proportions, though.

I think the lineart is really smooth. Just looking I think the waist is a little thin and could be thicker.

the right eye is larger then the left something about the right leg is also bugging me the fingernails on the left hand could be redrawn more carefuly. define her left boob alittle more,
aside from that it's a nice line art ^^ <3

Aye based on the positioning of Yomi the eyes should be drawn a little different regarding the size so I shall keep that in mind when it comes to colouring. Thanks for the pointers, shall keep them in mind for when I do pieces in the future. Thanks for commenting!

Haha, glad you like her! Ember-of-Roses gave a great description with her features! I often do racers so it makes me smile when you think of her as one. I am not 100% sure what her profession is but I will find out in the near future I hope .

Nice linework. It's very pretty.
I have to say though, her boots seem a bit... Small. I'm not sure if her feet would be able to fit in them at that size.

Glad you like the lineart, it is not one of my strong areas so I appreciate you think it looks good. I can see what you mean, with the reference for the pose I had to work around trying to get the baggy overalls working with the boots which may make em look small but will keep at it next time.

Thanks very much for having a look! I am glad you like the boots! Getting them to look great with the baggy overalls was tricky but makes me glad you like em . They are tricky thats for sure, especially when they get to the bit where the foot begins.

wow! This is excellent!
I'll try and do some constructive criticism... ;3;
Eyes:
I think they are spaced a little too far apart. When I imagine the character as facing forward, the spacing right now makes the eyes touch the edge of the face. This detail is made noticeable by the nose's bridge. Since it's drawn, distance is emphasized.
Nose:
For the angle you are at, the nose is a tad pointy. I might look at a few reference pictures; I'm not great at noses so I can't say much. ;A;
Mouth:
The edges of the mouth always increase in thickness - to some varying extent. I would play around with that and look at some stock pictures of the expression you are trying to convey.
Jaw:
The right side of the jaw doesn't seem anatomically correct. I can't put my finger on what's wrong, but there's just something off!
I hope I was a little bit helpful... QuQ

RQL In reply to torinuri [2011-11-01 19:28:16 +0000 UTC]
I can see what you mean with the eyes, I think maybe if I drawn the left eye a little wider prehaps that may have looked a bit better prehaps. I tried to follow my reference close here but will try harder next time. The nose i draw has evolved as of recent so I will keep at it! Will remember that as that is definitely true.
Thanks for commenting, did help!
