Description Redesign of the classic team. I was a kid in the 90's so of course I loved this show when it came out but I'm not super invested in the new movie coming out. I hope it's alright, but... I like that they made the new suits look more organic but I think they are too clunky. I tried to keep mine streamlined and similar to the basic idea of the originals.

Your designs look a lot closer to the feel of what Rangers should be. They're nice and smooth, thus easy to move in for martial arts action. Martial arts always look better when they're done genuinely, and the original show knew that well.

I feel what you're saying. Design should make them look like great fighters, not average people in tech suits.

This is an incredible design. Really,Β THIS is what they should have gone for with the new movie - it's like the original, but updated appropriately. The new suits just seem kind of... off... to me.

Excellent workΒ hereΒ

Thank you! I like the "organic" aspects of the suits for the new movie, but they look too clunky, like Iron Man. Also feel like the Zords should have stayed more animalistic, but the Megazord is really hard to figure out. I tried redesigning it but couldn't come up with a version that worked.

Scholarly-Cimmerian In reply to RtRadke [2017-02-03 03:20:45 +0000 UTC]

Definitely agree with both the Zords and the Megazord. I feel you can barely tell that the new Zords are supposed to be animals - or at least, earthly animals. And then the new Megazord... I have no idea what can be done to reconcile THAT with the classic one.

LexieHiveMind In reply to Scholarly-Cimmerian [2017-03-31 18:29:29 +0000 UTC]

The Zords are ancient alien technology, why the hell would you expect them to resemble Earth animals perfectly?

I really like your redesigns, they pay homage to the originals but add their own flare, unlike the movie's designs which are so far removed from the original show that the only real resemblance is the color.

The more I look at these beauties, the more I notice that you and others who'd rather these over what's in the movie wants something that doesn't have organic texture. I don't dislike that I simply, since about June 2014, think of the more tech-based design being reserved for 'In Space', 'Lightspeed Rescue', 'Time Force', 'Space Patrol Delta', 'Operation: Overdrive' and 'Racing Performance Machines' because of the explanation in the respective seasons about their power while the animal-based seasons should have a more organic feel should either of these suits are realized in theatrical appearances..... Intriguing.

BEAUTIFUL take on what the movie's designers could've done to fit the overall context for the movie's exoskeleton armor (Context of which is spoken of by the director, one of the designers and the awesome cast of Rangers. I recommend watching all of their interviews if you like to smile a lot. LoL.) while not being comparable to various MCU Iron Man armor. I would say the movie armor is too Iron Man-ish but after seeing many armors of that type from Stormtroopers, OG Robocop, Guyver, the OG MMPR movie suits (Especially with that being the basis of the movie's design) and Mass Effect human/Asari armor the movie's exoskeletons simply look like a different take in the maneuverable-combat armor category. Plus the movie's has too much scale-skin-spandex for Mass Effect armor to not be the best comparison to the Power Rangers movie's LoL.

The more I look at the movie's armor they help me feel like the Power Rangers movie's costume designers looked to DeviantArt for inspiration; from the Robocop-ish/Iron Man-ish armor (DavidFernandezArt, Nebezial, Kyomusha, Monstrous64) to the techno-organic (peachlab, philldwill) while your previous work looks like a fine spandex-armor blend. I say this as a Power Rangers fan who've watched all PR seasons multiple times allowing me to notice the movie's helmets seemingly homaging some seasons' helmets;

1: Movie Jason's Megaforce Red-like visor.
2: Zacks S.P.D.-like visor.
3: Kimberly's Overdrive Pink-like visor.
4; Trini's Megaforce Yellow-like visor.
5: The movie helmets' overall Jungle Fury like approach (Trying to have an animal's head's expression while being anti-blatant but less blatant for the movie of course).
6 : They all have Time Force-sized mouth/cheek exposure.

And again, AWESOME art! Would've totally accepted this if this was for the movie.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I feel like my rendering skills weren't quite capable of capturing the image in my head and that maybe I could have pushed the "organic" feel of the suits farther. Honestly my main influence (besides the original costumes obviously) was something between Tron Legacy and the different incarnations of Marvel's Venom symbiote. In my mind the silver mouths actually move when they talk, with maybe a bit of a glow from inside. From the images I've seen of the movie so far, they seem bulky and overly detailed, which is how I feel about a lot of the comic book adaptations as well. I gravitate towards simpler, sleeker designs, so figuring out what to do with the helmets is the hardest part. I may work on the designs more in the future with each individual Ranger seperate.

"Thanks for the thoughtful comment."

You're welc-a-delc!

"In my mind the silver mouths actually move when they talk"

I've been hoping that happens in the movie since 2015!

I really dig your influence for your latest Ranger-take.

I've been genuinely contemplating why some people whom I've heard/read say they don't like the movie suits have liked, for example, the Batfleck suit. Not much to look at on that suit compared to the movie Rangers of course so I wondered if it's a "Simplicity Vs High-Intricacy" thing. I genuinely thank you for being one who actually flat-out says it! I've only notice strong hints of that from others who don't like the movie's Ranger suits. So yeah, I simply didn't really understand it because high-intricacy costumes are my favorite; MCU Thor's #1 for me in the MCU and MCU War Machine's #1 in terms of armor. Thus that'd explain part of why the Power Rangers movie's exoskeleton armor are my favorite superhero movie costumes ever thus far.

And finally, do you plan to make redesigns for any PR seasons pass 1999. I ask cause SOOOO many simply doesn't and I don't get why that's the case with roughly any on DeviantArt. LoL

RtRadke In reply to TheFFJUniverse [2016-08-10 12:57:11 +0000 UTC]

I don't plan on doing any further seasons. I'm more likely to do some drawings of the individual Rangers, Zords and villains if I have time. The reason for me and I assume others as well is that the original season of Power Rangers came out when I was an elementary school student in the 90's. There had never been anything like MMPR on TV before and the idea of ninjas who drive robot dinosaurs and fight monsters was insanely cool. My love of the series has more to do with nostalgia rather than the ongoing mythology. By the time the original cast had all left, so had most of my interest as I entered my pre-teens. Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z became the new cool things.

I'm curious if there's any specific character from the original show you'd like to see me draw?

"I don't plan on doing further seasons."

Aww. M'kay. And what you mentioned about what drew you to Power Rangers definitely reminds me of how I got started in 1998 at 3 years alive. And I have noticed that to be the case with most artist who have redesigned Power Rangers from MM to Zeo while Kyomusha did those plus Turbo and Lost Galaxy and none futher. I don't have a problem with that as I've learned some others do. But it does help me become more interested in developing my art skills further.

And regarding whether I'd like to see your ideas for a specific MM character....... Hmmm...... Baboo or Squatt or Finster..... Wait........ Yep, Finster.
