Description Chapter One *Part 1*

It is a rule within the dragons of Trunt that all dragons who have been speaking with no help for a year must start in the Class program. It is especially necessary for the Frost-Flame dragons, which is what I am. However, I have a special ability; the ability to remember anything and everything I ever come across. Anything I have ever felt, tasted, seen, or heard is forever locked into my memory, and because of that, I was able to remember from about a month in the egg to today. It’s also because of my perfect memory, I was able to talk without receiving any help from the moment I was hatched.

A year passed, and according to our law, I had to take part in the Class program. The program involved the younger, newer generation to learn about each individual class. Warriors, Mages, Healers, Caregivers, and Scribes. Here in the territory of Wintz, everyone wants to be a Warrior, Mage, or Healer. Some would even go for Caregiver, but almost no one wants to become a Scribe. My parents are fine examples of that since they’re both Warriors, and well known ones too. They are second only to Rift, the lead Warrior, and also the one who is recruiting, and possibly mentoring, the young ones who decide that they want to become Warriors, which I can safely assume will be a good eighty-five percent.

I was surrounded by around 20 other Frost-Flame dragons, all of them larger than me, with whiskers that barely reached their chest. They had to be around three or four years old. According to my parents, most hatchlings actually didn’t speak until they were around that age.

I grunted as the dragon next to me was shoved by his friend and bumped into me. He had a golden mane, and didn’t apologize, even though I saw him glance at me. I lowered my ears and looked at my parents, Nyxum and Kilala, for support. They were both bragging to the parents next to them about me though. I scratched the back of my head, feeling my blood-red mane become ruffled and messy. I sighed and brushed it back down again. Mother would kill me if she saw my fur had become all messy after she worked so hard to keep it nice and combed back. I didn’t like the feeling of my head-mane pushed back, but to please Mother, I guess I’ll have to live with it.

I sat down on my cat-like back paws and curled my long tail around myself, leaving a trail in the snow covered ground. The pine trees that surrounded our village were coated with the same powdery snow, making it hard to see all the dragons if it weren’t for our manes that stretched from the top of our head, to the very tip of our tails. I raised my long, large, white-furred ears as I noticed a few dragons come up to the front. They were all so big, and their whiskers flowed behind them as if they were carried by some sort of magic.

I watched in awe as they all lined up. The one in the middle stepped forward. His head-mane was lined up neatly with his muzzle and the fur seemed to start black, but slowly became as white as his fur. The rest of his mane was simply striped black, giving him a strange look. He had one long scar running down his left eye, forcing it to stay closed, but his other eye was a sapphire blue that seemed to pierce anyone with simply a glance towards them. “Attention!” He called out. His voice was rough, and almost scary. Everyone sat up like me, forcing me to stretch my body upwards just to see. “So many promising faces this year,” he said with a smile. “Allow us to introduce ourselves. I am Rift, the lead Warrior, and a possible mentor for some of you.” Many dragons in the crowd started to mutter excitedly.

They were quickly hushed by a dragon with a long green mane that made it hard to see her eyes. She stood to the right of Rift and  her whiskers were probably the longest of the five dragons up there, meaning she was oldest. She shook her head to move some of her head-fur out of her face, letting me see her bright yellow eyes. “I am Lia, the lead Healer. I am not exactly a mentor, but if you decide to join our ranks, I am always open for questions.”

The next dragon to step up was the dragon to the left of Rift. He was a serious looking dragon with a dark purple mane. His head-mane was pulled back and tied with a tight, golden ring that hung behind his right ear. His fire red eyes scared me enough to even lower my ears slightly. On his right cheek, there was an X-shaped scar. “I am Necro, the lead Mage,” he said then looked to his left where the next dragon stood.

Her glittering violet eyes gave everyone a sense of excitement, and her light pink mane was a mess, as if she didn’t have enough time to get ready. “My name is Kito!” she exclaimed. “I am in charge of the Caregivers! I hope to see some of you decide to join us, we are really fun you know!” she giggles. Rift giggled, but Lia and the other two dragons up there looked slightly annoyed by her attitude.

The last dragon to step up had a red-orange mane, and strangely enough, above his eyes were two spots of the same color. His mane was fixed similarly to Necro’s but it seemed neater in a way I couldn’t describe. His eyes were the same red color as Necro too, but they weren’t as frightening as his. Flung across his chest, and held between his body and arm, was a bag that seemed to be full of scrolls. “My name is Naja, the lead Scribe, but I’m also the mentor for any newcomers.”

“You can’t be the ‘lead’ of something when you don’t have anyone to lead,” Rift snorted quietly.

Naja glanced at him, but remained calm. “You must understand that my class is just as important as yours.”

“Important? You read and write,” Rift growled back. “Does that win any wars? Does that protect this generation, and generations to come? No.”

Naja looked away, but not upset as if he had lost an argument. If anything, he looked exhausted with it and would rather stop it than continue it. Rift seemed pleased with himself anyway, and turned his focus back onto us. “Today will be a simple lesson, since it is all your first day.”

“Since we will be mentoring you in the future, we would love to meet all of you,” Lia continued, before Kito stepped up and continued her sentence.

“But, that would take forever, and I’m sure you’ll all get so tired of just sitting around and waiting, am I right?”

“Yeah!” everyone exclaimed, including me.

“So, we decided to go ahead and play a little game.”

Excited mumbles filled the crowd as everyone turned to face their friend to ask them what type of game it’ll be. As if anyone would know the answer.

“We need everyone to stand in a circle. Look! We’ll join too!” Kito exclaimed as everyone started to shift away and sit in a large circle. I didn’t realize how big of a space it was until they had opened it up like this. It was fascinating. I watched as Kito and the others started to squeeze themselves in. Naja seemed to be left out for a little bit until Kito moved over to give him just enough room to fit his slender body. I saw her smile at him, but he didn’t really seem to care. “Awesome!” she exclaimed in an unusual high and cheery voice. “You guys are much quicker than last year!” she praised causing everyone to puff out their chest in pride. I just rolled my eyes in slight annoyance. It was an obvious lie that I’m sure she told every year.

Necro suddenly cleared his throat, holding up one of his bird-like claws into a fist to cover his mouth. “I’m going to create a snowball using the snow around us. Those who want to become Mages, watch carefully.”

I didn’t exactly know what I wanted to be, even though my parents want me to become a Warrior like them. Even then, I watched in amazement as Necro focused down on the snow. His whiskers rose in the air as a slightly strong wind picked up, bringing up millions of tiny snowflakes. They all shined against the sun, forcing me to squint my eyes. The snowflakes continued to compress until he had a perfect sphere, large enough for a three year old dragon to catch. I on the other hand, saw that snowball as a death wish, and lowered my ears, “It’s so big,” I muttered, not really wanting anyone else to hear me.

The Frost-Flame next to me looked down at me. She had a long, sky-blue mane and dark brown eyes that made it near impossible to see her pupils. She cocked her head like a bird at me before asking, “Aren’t you a little small to be here?”

I looked up at her. This was the first time I ever really spoke to someone else other than my parents. I swallowed and looked up at her. “Y-yeah. Well, maybe. I mean I have been talking for more than a year, but I am younger than everyone else here,” I stammered nervously.

“Wow! That’s so cool!” she exclaimed. “How old are you?”

I held up a claw. “I just turned one.”

Her brown eyes widened in astonishment and her ears shot up. “Woah! So you have been talking since you hatched? You must be a real chatterbox!” she laughed.

I gave a shy smile. “I guess?”

“I’m Zylph,” she said suddenly. “And I’m three years old! What’s your name?”

“Sang.”

“That’s a cool name.” She gave me another wide smile. “Do you know what you want to be Sang?”

Man, this girl asked a lot of questions. Still, I didn’t want to be rude, so I answered, “I don’t really know. My parents are both Warriors, so they want me to be a Warrior too so…,” I drifted off.

“Don’t let your parents decide for you Sang!” Zylph exclaimed. “You be what you want to be! Like, my dad wants me to be a Mage, and my mom wants me to be a Caregiver, but I really, really want to be a Healer like my mom’s sister. She’s so cool and smart with plants,” she whispered happily. “Anyway, what do you think looks cooler?” she finished.

I shrugged. “I mean, from what I’m seeing, a Mage looks pretty cool.”

She nodded. “Yeah, they’re cool I guess. I mean I’ve seen it so often so I’m kinda used to it.”

“I still can’t really decide though. I haven’t really gotten the chance to see any other Classes other than Warrior so I can’t say for sure.”

She held up an open claw to stop me. “Yeah, yeah. I get ‘ya.” She looked back towards the circle and widened her eyes. “Sang look out!” she cried out.

“Wha-?” I started, looking back towards the circle. The giant snowball was flying towards me, too fast for me to try and catch, and too close for me to be able to dodge successfully. I braced myself for impact, but I saw Zylph reach out and catch with both of her hands.

She turned to face me, worry filled her eyes. “Are you ok?”

I nodded. “Y-yeah. Thanks Zylph.”

“Here I’ll hold it for you.”

Everyone was looking expectantly at me, though many of them also looked curious, as if they were asking themselves if I were just a hatchling that wandered away from their parents. I leaned towards Zylph. “What am I supposed to do?”

She looked at me with wide eyes and mouthed, “I don’t know!”
