This is a Harry/Draco fanficiton. Meaning boy/boy. If you don't like, don't read. That is all.

Harry and Draco had made it out of the house, down the steps and were now moving slowly down the sidewalk. The invisibility cloak was big enough to cover both of them easily, but Harry still wanted to be extra careful so that no part of either one of them would be seen. He could only imagine the trauma it could cause to some poor muggle walking down the street who would happen to spy a foot or an arm. Harry shuddered. If that had happened to him before he learned about wizards, extensive therapy would have been required. Not that the Dursleys would have gotten him treated. Come to think of it, he probably needed therapy solely because of the Dursleys.

They walked in silence for a little over five minutes before Draco asked, “So, where are we going?”

Harry stopped dead in his tracks, causing Draco to run into his back. He ignored Draco’s indignant grumble as he considered their options. If truth be known he hadn’t thought about where they were going. He actually hadn’t thought past getting out the front door.

“Since you obviously have not planned this out,” Draco’s voice interrupted, “might I make a suggestion?”

Harry turned around so that he could see Draco. He frowned. “If you must,” he muttered.

“Very well,” Draco said. He had caught on to Harry’s bad mood. “I suggest that we try to stay out of the wizard world. We are two of the most recognizable faces. On top of that, once the adults realize that we’re gone they’ll have half of London looking for us. Therefore the most logical thing for us to do is to stay in the muggle part, but in order for us to do that we need muggle money, which means we need to go exchange our wizard money at the bank in Diagon Alley.”

Harry’s head spun trying to keep up with Draco’s so-called ‘plan’. It sounded completely unpalatable. “Draco,” Harry started slowly. “You just said that we’re two of the most recognizable faces in our world. How are we supposed to just waltz in, go to the bank and leave without someone stopping us?”

“You’ll see,” Draco said. “Trust me.”

Harry couldn’t believe he was actually going to go along with this. It was complete and utter foolishness. Even he knew that. And that was saying something, as Harry Potter happened to be one of the most foolish and clueless people ever. But Draco said to trust him and in spite of himself Harry did.

They walked all day mostly in silence as neither Harry nor Draco had anything particular to say to the other one. As they rounded what seemed like the hundredth corner, Harry spotted the Leaky Cauldron nestled quietly between two muggle shops. At this point Draco muttered something about them getting a room and Harry grunted in reply. Yes, this was utter madness.

“You go ahead and get us a room,” Draco said authoritatively. “I’ll follow under the cloak.”

“Why me?” Harry asked. He couldn’t see why he had been chosen for such an honor.

“Because that’s what heroes are for,” Draco answered, as if it was the simplest thing in the world.

Harry sighed. There was no arguing with that one, he supposed. “And how am I supposed to do this, now?” he asked sullenly. He was tired from walking. His head hurt from being slightly dehydrated and he felt hot and sticky. Not to mention that the lack of information being provided by Draco was getting on his last nerve.

“Like this,” Draco replied, throwing a black cape around Harry’s shoulders. The silky material of the cape felt cool against Harry’s hot skin. Draco pulled the hood down, shielding Harry’s face from view.

“Oh, yes, it’s like I’m a completely different person,” Harry said sarcastically.

“Hush you.” It was obvious that Draco didn’t like Harry dogging on his plan. “Just hush up and get in there.” Without warning Draco pushed Harry out from under the safety of the invisibility cloak and through the doorway of the Leaky Cauldron.

Harry stumbled, losing his balance, and he had to grab the side of the wall to prevent himself from tumbling entirely to the ground. He heard an echo of a concealed snicker and shot a glare in the direction he supposed Draco was in. Lousy Draco. That’s what he got for trusting a Slytherin. He would kill him when he got the chance, the traitor. Harry regained some of his lost composure and looked around. He was relieved to see that there were not many people in the Leaky Cauldron and that they either hadn’t noticed his less than poised entrance, or simply didn’t care.

Harry made his way to the counter, pulling obsessively at his hood, desperately trying to make it stay down just an extra half inch more.  The innkeeper, Tom, was ready with his normal toothy grin, though it looked a little less genuine than Harry remembered.

“Are you requiring accommodations?” Tom asked.

“Yes,” Harry breathed, trying to make his voice sound deeper and less youthful.

“And what is your name?”

Harry froze. He hadn’t thought of a name. He was terrible at thinking up names. The last time he’d used a fake name he had actually used the name of one of his classmates. But that wouldn’t do. What if someone knew the real person the name went to?

“Errr…” Harry started, raking his mind in a panic. “Wescott!” Mrs. Wescott had been his first grade teacher. So he was using someone’s real name after all. Old bat of a woman, really, but Mrs. Wescott had been a muggle. Surely there could be no harm. “My name is Wescott,” Harry stated firmly.

Tom looked at him a little suspiciously. “And how long will you be staying, Mr. Wescott?”

“One night,” Harry said, making an executive decision. Draco hadn’t told him how long. One night should be enough, Harry reasoned. Maybe they would leave even sooner than that. It probably wasn’t wise to linger in one place for too long.

Giving Harry another look, Tom handed him a key and pointed him in the direction of the staircase. Harry gave him a hurried thank you and rushed to the stairs as fast as he could without looking alarmed. He could feel the gentle breeze of Draco walking behind him. Just by the way the air was moving behind him, he could tell Draco was all ease and tranquility. This irritated Harry a little.

Finding the room as quickly as he could, Harry went inside, holding the door open a little bit longer than a person normally would to allow Draco time to come inside. Once Harry was certain Draco was in, he slammed the door and ripped off the cape, throwing it over the back of the chair by the desk.

“You’re really infuriating sometimes,” Harry said slumping down on the bed. “You know that, don’t you?”

“Oh, come now,” Draco said. He had pulled off the invisibility cloak and folded it neatly on the chair. “You were splendid. I couldn’t have done it better myself.” Draco said this as if he was bestowing an exceedingly rare compliment.

Harry sighed. “You’re going to be the death of me,” he said.

“Yes,” Draco agreed solemnly, “I am.”

Draco joined him on the bed, pulling at Harry until he relented and allowed Draco to tug him against his chest. Harry breathed in Draco’s scent and listened to the steady beat of his heart. They were in so much trouble. And Harry was one to know about trouble. For most of the time he was in it. Running away was bad enough, but trying to find a witch who may or may not be able to help them on top of that just equaled disaster. Not to mention the fact that they didn’t know where she was or if she was even real.

Harry looked up at Draco. His eyes were closed, his blond lashes lying softly against his cheeks. His breath was deep and even like waves falling in and out from the beach. Suddenly lying there against Draco made Harry feel plain and insignificant in comparison. Draco was beautiful. Draco was beyond beautiful. He was absolutely breathtaking. And Harry suddenly needed a question to be answered.

“Draco, can I ask you something?”

“You can ask anything you wish of me,” Draco answered.

Harry took a deep breath. This had been troubling him for awhile. He had done a good job of burying this feeling away. But somehow the trouble kept reemerging like a floating piece of drift wood. “Why do you like me? You’re so beautiful. You could have anyone you want and yet, you want to be with me. I’m just ordinary.”

Draco didn’t reply right away. His breath was still deep and even and Harry could almost hear the waves crashing against the shore. When he answered his voice was soft and full of a nameless emotion that Harry could only hope was real. “You’re obviously not looking at the same thing I am when I look at you.” He said nothing more.

Harry was once again left with his thoughts. He wanted to believe Draco with every fiber of his being. He had never felt this way about anyone. They’d had a shaky start, right from the beginning of their acquaintance and there had been more than a few years that they had hated each other. Was it even possible for them to love each other? Could it be that Draco was just using him? Harry didn’t like that thought. He looked back up at Draco. He was asleep. Harry settled back down, closing his eyes. He would believe in Draco. He would keep on believing him, even if it killed him.

                                                        ~~~
When Harry woke he was no longer resting against Draco. He yawned and pushed himself up to sit against the bed. Light was streaming in through the window. The whiteness hurt Harry’s eyes and he had to shield them with the back of his hand.
“Draco?” Harry called out. He felt it was harder to breathe when Draco wasn’t beside him. He didn’t know if that was a good thing.
“I’m in here, Harry,” Draco’s voice answered from the bathroom.
Harry felt the life flow back into him and he got up from the bed and wandered into the open door of the bathroom. Draco was doing something quite odd inside. In the sink he had four test tubes full of a glop-like, oozy substance that Harry recognized from the odor in the air. Harry quickly shoved his hand over his mouth and nose. It had been several years earlier that he’d used polyjuice potion to trick Draco. Draco had no idea of this and Harry didn’t know what to tell him.
“I suppose that means you know what this is,” Draco stated calmly.
Harry nodded his head vigorously.
“Now do you understand how we’ll get into the bank?”
Harry nodded again. “But Draco,” he said through his hand. “Where did you get it?”
“Professor Snape,” Draco said, ignoring Harry’s visible grimace at the professor’s name. “He gave this to me in case the Order headquarters was infiltrated. The thought was to give me a better chance to evade capture.”
Harry shook his head. Yes, that sounded just like Snape. Though, really it wasn’t a bad idea. He would never admit it to Snape, though. Harry knew that Draco would probably be in even more trouble than he, himself, would be if captured. Harry knew in his case they would just kill him, but with Draco, they would do worse than kill him. They would keep him alive to torture until he would beg for death. Harry shuddered again but for entirely different reasons.
Harry’s attention snapped back to Draco. He was frowning.
“What were you thinking about?” he asked suspiciously.
“It’s not important,” Harry answered weakly. He gave Draco the most convincing smile he could muster.
Draco was still frowning but appeared to let it go. In his hand he was holding two corked test tubes, both containing hair. Harry hoped it was all human hair this time.
“Are we going to do this now, then?” Harry asked.
Draco nodded. “I assume you know how this works.” He continued on without waiting for a response, “We’ll have exactly one hour with the first tubes. We shouldn’t need the second tubes, but we’ll bring them along anyway just in case.”
Harry took in a long breath and held it. Yes. Two hours would be enough time. More than enough time. But the time limit put Harry on edge. He released his breath.
“All right,” Harry said. “Let’s do this.”
Without a word Draco dropped the hair into the four test tubes. The first two turned a yellowish color. The second two turned a murky red. Draco hesitated for a moment before handing Harry one of the tubes containing the yellow mixture. Harry held it up to his nose. It didn’t smell as bad as the one he took to be Goyle.
“I’m going to take this out there,” Harry said motioning to the bedroom. As stupid as it sounded he didn’t want Draco to see him bent over in pain. Somehow it just felt wrong.
“Very well,” Draco said. He was eyeing his own potion.
Harry left the bathroom, closing the door behind him. He went over to the window to draw the blinds. He couldn’t believe he had forgotten to do so the day before. But seeing as the Order or anyone else for that matter hadn’t shown up at their door he assumed that they were safe.
Mentally apologizing to his stomach for what he was about to put in it, Harry closed his eyes and downed the entire contents of the test tube in one go. It wasn’t terrible. Not as terrible as it had been the first time, anyway. Harry presumed that it was the type of thing that got easier with each effort. His entire body shook as the transformation took place. He watched as his hands grew both in size and in wrinkles. He shut his eyes, not wanting to witness any more. It made him slightly sick to his stomach for reasons that he wasn’t sure of. The change didn’t take long. Not nearly as long as Harry had remembered.
Harry opened his eyes and made his way over to the long mirror by the bathroom door. Staring back at him with a shocked look on his face was an elderly man. He had neatly combed white hair and piercing ice blue eyes. He was thin and Harry found that the clothes he was wearing were just a little bit too big. Though the loose clothing would not really be detrimental in any way. Harry tightened his belt two notches, looking over at the bathroom door. Draco had to be finished transforming, too. Harry wondered who Draco had morphed into.
Harry was just about to knock on the door and ask if it was all right to come in when a blood-curdling scream resounded from inside the bathroom. Without a second thought, Harry barged into the bathroom. Though what he saw made him wish that he hadn’t.
Draco, or what Draco had formerly looked like, was gone. And in his place, swimming in Draco’s clothing, was a little girl who looked to be about seven or eight years old. She had strawberry blond hair and a round and what would be sweet looking face had she not had a scowl on her face. She looked out and saw Harry and her scowl grew even deeper.
“Damn it!” she cursed. Those words sounded strange to Harry coming out of a little girl’s mouth. “I gave you the wrong one.”
It took Harry a moment to process this comment. Then realization dawned on him. “You meant for me to turn into the little girl, didn’t you?” Harry’s voice was now deeper than his own and it startled him. “Why?”
“Because I was going to handle the money,” Draco said. “I’m sure you’re hopeless when it comes to that sort of thing.”
“I’ll do fine,” Harry said coolly.
Draco didn’t seem to hear him. “This is terrible,” he said. He looked down at his small child hands. “What am I supposed to do like this?”
“You could just stay here,” Harry offered.
Draco had heard him that time. “Absolutely not. You’re no good without me.”
Harry had to humbly agree with that. “Well then, what’s done is done,” he said. “We’ll just have to make do like this.”
“Easy for you to say,” Draco mumbled. “You ever been turned into a girl?”
Harry shook his head. No, he couldn’t say that he had ever been a girl. Harry watched as Draco lugged his way over to his knapsack, pulling the oversized clothing with him. He began rooting around in the bag until he pulled out a little red pin-striped dress. Without warning Draco stripped away his too big clothes.
“Draco!” Harry exclaimed, turning away in embarrassment.
“What?” Draco asked, pulling the dress over his head.
“Could you please show a little modesty?”
Draco looked down at his half covered body. “Why? This isn’t my body.”
“Yes, but it belongs to someone,” Harry insisted.
“Children aren’t modest at this age,” Draco told him. “I’m sure many people have seen her naked.”
“That’s not the point,” Harry said quietly. But as Draco had the dress securely on the girl’s body he decided to drop it.
Harry held out his hand. Draco hesitated and then took it. It was strange holding a child’s hand, let alone a little girl’s hand. The only person he’d ever held hands with had been Draco. Come to think of it, had they held hands before? Harry thought hard for a moment. Not where anyone could see them so it definitely hadn’t been just walking around. So the first time they were going to hold hands out in the open they weren’t even themselves. That was depressing.
“Is something wrong?” Draco asked. He cocked his head to one side. Harry noticed that the girl’s shoulder length hair had a slight curl at the end.
Harry shook his head. “No, are you ready?”
Draco nodded.
“Then let’s go!”
