www.voguefabricsstore.com/Hors…

I found it here. For 2 yards of the 2" horsehair my total, with shipping, was about $6 and some change. The smaller stuff is cheaper though
Hope this helps!

About how much fabric did you have/use, or how much do you recommend?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RuffleButtCosplay In reply to Cherabby [2013-12-14 20:12:31 +0000 UTC]

I think that was 5 yards, but the full skirt is 10. Maybe 12.

Lorithellama In reply to SethKirklandJones [2013-05-29 19:31:00 +0000 UTC]

no. the horse hair is what gives the fabric these structured ruffles. it's fairly cheap.

MallowNinja In reply to ??? [2013-03-30 06:44:21 +0000 UTC]

I can totally do this for a Mami Tomoe cosplay... hmmm

Do you line your skirt before you add in the horsehair braid? Also, do you do this on every single skirt separately, so... wouldn't it be easier to attach all the skirts together after putting the braid in, or no? I've never worked with it so I wouldn't know. (Also, what kind of fabrics would you recommend? :o)

Thank you, though, this is seriously gonna be useful in the future.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RuffleButtCosplay In reply to MallowNinja [2013-06-12 21:51:41 +0000 UTC]

Yes, and yes. Attach the skirts after putting the brain in. The fabric in the picture is bridal satin, but I' also used cotton sateen.

cosplaycalamity [2013-03-27 13:13:19 +0000 UTC]

So that's how you do it! Did you line your skirt after to hide the horsehair braid?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RuffleButtCosplay In reply to cosplaycalamity [2013-06-12 21:52:02 +0000 UTC]

Nah. You can get horsehair that matches your fabric.

Hi there! I was wondering if I could share this tutorial with my anime club as I run the newsletter and have a section dedicated to tutorials of the month. I was hoping that this would help some of the aspiring cosplayers who want to look into the ruffle effect. I will credit you and put a link to your deviantart so they can check it out more. Also, I automatically thought of Cardcaptor Sakura when I saw this and it made me extremely happy. Thank you for sharing!

I am stupid and uninformed. Please tell me, is that literal horse hair that is woven into some shape, or do they just call it horse hair because reasons?

wow great tutorial.
Just one question how come I can't see any black from the horsehair in the pic?
[link]
I only seem to the red of the fabric. did you cut the extra part of the horshair?
