Description Chapter One

I was crammed in an incredibly small space in my first memory. Darkness surrounded me. Panic gripped me, and all I had in that moment was my instinct. All that I knew was that I had to push and I must push hard.

So push I did. I could not see the small brown paws that were pressed tightly against my chest. All I knew was that I had to use those tiny limbs if I did not want to suffocate. I pushed at the wall of the cramped space that surrounded me. The strength of my forelegs would not be enough. I summoned my hind legs to push as well. I put all my might into breaking out of the space.

And finally I was rewarded. I had broken the shell of my egg. I had defeated the suffocating darkness and earned my reward in the realm of artificial light. It was then that I was born.

I was not aware of myself at first. The first thing that I became aware of after entering this world was not myself at all. It was my environment that fascinated me. I saw a bright light shining down from above me. There were steel bars separating me from the light. A quick survey of my surroundings proved that bars were separating me from more than just the light. Bars were separating me from everything.

The world around me began to shake. I had not yet realized that it was not the world shaking, not really. It was my small body that was trembling. I remember the instinctive longing for warmth that I felt, knowing that something was amiss about my situation. Something was definitely wrong with being born alone, about being so cold in my first hour of life.

Forgive me, you must be terribly confused. You have no idea about what I am, or at least what I was. I will explain this to you now, for it was about this time that I became aware of myself.

My brown fur was still moist with the dew of my egg. Pieces of the shell were still stuck in tufts of fur that were hard for me to reach. I did not pay them much mind. What caught my attention most was my large, bushy tail. It was fluffy and mostly brown like the rest of me, except there was a light cream colored patch of fur at its tip. I had a fleeting desire to chase it, but the desire was quickly replaced with the need to be warm.

The same cream colored fur surrounded my neck in large tufts. I wanted to sink into them; become small and protected within a warm mountain of fur.

I did not know it yet, but I was born as an Eevee, arguably the species of pokémon with the most genetic potential. Looking back, it was not hard to figure out why my species was desired for these genetic experiments. Of course, at this point I did not know about experiments or anything of the like. After all, I had only been born moments before.

A small section of the bars suddenly disappeared. A large human hand was reaching toward me. I felt confused and threatened by it. I shrank against the bars behind me and hoped the large hand would miss me. Unfortunately, that large hand was attached to a long arm.

I tried to run away from the intruding hand, but it was a futile effort. The cage was too small for me to run, and my limbs were still too new and uncoordinated for the action anyway. They did not have the strength I would have needed. I could not fight when the hand wrapped around me. The fingers were tight around my stomach. I was completely constricted as I was pulled from my cage.

A tall man (well I assume he was tall; at this point everything had towered over me) held me up above his head. I could feel my young little heart beating wildly in my chest. I was so high up, I feared I would soon plummet to my death. It was entirely possible. All this strange human would need to do is twitch one of his fingers.

I tried to distract myself from these thoughts. This had been the first time I had ever seen another living being. I could not help but find this human both threatening and fascinating. He wore a long white coat; typical considering the laboratory setting. His eyes were hidden behind his thick glasses. I could see my tiny and scared reflecting in the lenses. Dark brown hair grew on his face and head, all of which was very nicely groomed. He looked to be a man of a mature age, perhaps in his 40’s.

Of course, I can describe him this way to you now. Back then, all I could think was that this man was a big, brown and white monster and he was dangerous.

I wanted to squirm out of his grip, but I was still much too young and much too weak. I looked at him helplessly as he examined me.

“Male,” he said. He was speaking to the young red haired woman behind him. “As expected. Eevee are usually male.”

“Yes sir, as expected,” the red haired woman replied. She too wore glasses, though their lenses were thin and displayed her pretty face quite nicely. Her black skirt was short and tight fitting. Her black top was also tight and very low cut. Her long red hair was tied back in a braid. She was taking noted on what the male human was saying about me.

“Smaller than average,” the man continued. He placed me on a scale. I resented the cold feeling of the metal against my paws. “Lighter then average as well.”

The young woman continued noting what the man had said about me. “Anything else, sir?” she asked after a moment.

“Make sure you label that document,” the man replied. “I’m going to move this one to a separate cage.”

He placed me in a cage on the opposite side of the small room. I briefly noticed that there were more eggs in different cages in the area I had been in previously. I was too distracted by the humans to pay it much attention.

“What should I label it as, sir?” the woman asked politely.

“Faction 17, subject one,” the bearded human replied.

I was given a name, then. Not a very good name, but I did not know much about names at the time. The male human labeled my cage. It was now home to me: 1701.
