Description
Speed-draw time: 45 mins
A piece I felt like doing for quite a while.
It's based off another piece Β I did way back when.
I might be giving this to a friend soon.

Hi RustyGentleman, I'm from ProjectComment . I noticed no one had added a constructive critique on this piece, so here I am! First off, I love this piece a lot, the surrealism of this piece makes it very interesting. The clean lines of the shapes also add a sense of satisfaction, while keeping the piece refreshing and cool. The shading of the lips and what looks to be a ribbon of some sort or maybe hair looks very nice. I'm going with hair, because to me that's what I see it as, I'd love to hear back from you explaining this piece!Β
I think with the eye, you could use a little bit more lines there, with the shading, since the rest of this seems bold and neat, but the eye becomes faded in the piece.Β
I think you could take this piece even further in future, maybe adding stronger lines with a fine tip pen, or adding colour, or maybe a background. This piece is done very well, but I'd love to see the rest of the black paper filled maybe?Β
I can't wait to see more artworks from you, you're very talented!

First off, thanks so much for the comment and the compliments! I really do appreciate it, for it motivates me to keep going. It's been hard to find motivation these days :/
I do realize I'm better with the lips than the eyes; I've never been good with human/animal anatomy at all, so I'm surprised the lips came out good. About coloring and such... I wanted to keep it nice and simple. As for the contrast, I partially agree, but it's because I didn't have good enough lighting at the time; I even edited it to add contrast, and it helped a lot, but it still looks slightly washed out. Sorry about that.
Sadly, I don't have this piece anymore. I made it for a friend, she's a big fan of surrealism. She loved it.
Those are supposed to be pieces of cloth, but think what you will, I'm glad you like it either way :3
Why? I don't know. I like drawing cloth.
Just wondering if you've noticed the eye in the mouth
If you want to see a fuller piece, I have one I made waaay back when which I filled with little details and little references to things that I like, calledΒ Through the Dark , which is a song by Rogue that helped me get through a difficult time. It's just a doodle though. A big doodle. In the lower left sector, the pixelized heart symbolizes Pegboard Nerds, and the mushroom symbolizes Infected Mushrooms. The eyes at the bottom are quite special too, but for reasons few people know u.u
You should... y'know... follow me maybe .3.
I don't post too much, I promise!

Yes I did notice the eye in the mouth Β
I recommend googling like anatomy study/practice, there is tons of stuff out there to help you practice and it will definitely help with your features! Practice makes progress!Β
I looked at your other piece and I love it! I love doodles it's pretty cool and yeah I'm thinking about following you! I hope you continue to produce amazing pieces and maybe I'll continue to critique them for you Β
Keep up the good work!

What an interesting piece of artwork!
Very mysterious... made me think of symbols and their hidden meanings.
I donβt know much about symbols and their interpretation. What I recognised was the eye in the triangle, which is a version of the all-seeing eye. In your case it is shut (not seeing anything) and crying some kind of cloth. The same cloth (or a different one?) disappears at the edge of the triangle, but reappears out of the line. And what about the eye in the mouth and the position of the triangles?
Β
All in all your shading is well done. Although it could use a little bit more contrast.
Β
A really thought provoking piece! It would be great to hear your thoughts about it.

The problem with contrast is the bottom right... As you can see, I don't have the best lighting.
I just went with the flow, let my mind do its thing and that is what came out, it doesn't have any hidden mysteries sadly. I partially only made it to give to a friend. She really liked surrealism, so I took that as a starting point. Started with the main triangle, drew an eye on it, then the second triangle... The idea was to draw different face features in abnormal positions in relation to each other (the mouth is above the eye and rotated), but I didn't want it to be cluttered, so I drew enough to set the idea down into the drawing. It still felt empty for me, so I added the cloth. Cloth I love drawing; its movement, its folds. I happened to add it as tears, which came through from my depression.Β

I see. Well, sometimes it is the best thing to simply let go. Your picture is a nice example.
I hope your friend liked it!
