Description
In a single day and night of misfortune. . . the island of Atlantis . . .disappeared in the depths of the sea.-Plato
Long ago, in the ancient city of Atlantis, there existed a power source, said to have been bestowed on the people by the gods themselves. The gods placed only the most noble of people upon the isle of Atlantis, trusting them with the power source, and guiding them in how to use it to it's fullest potential. They showed the people how to create wonderful things that made them the most technologically advanced society of the age. The gods cultivated Atlantis as their jewel, the blessed city that glowed within Poseidon's great sea. It is said that he gave them horses crafted of water to help them cultivate agriculture. They roamed the shores and farmland, coming and going as they pleased and leaving glowingly healthy crops in their wake.
One evening, Apollo came to rest his horses within the city and revel with the mortals, his task of carrying the sun across the sky complete for the day. He let his horses roam the isle. His stallions met with some of Poseidon's mares, and from their union, the first Hallucinogens were born. The Atlanteans called them BeininRouho-- The Holy Horse. They were the color of the sea, and glowed like the sun, bearing white markings like waves that broke on the shore. They could breathe underwater and could help heal the injured. They bonded with the people of Atlantis, and were their own treasure, a gift from the Gods. They cultivated the breed, keeping them isolated on the island and refusing to let them be exported. Their population flourished.
His story began as a foal born to a farming family. He was gifted to their young daughter, and the two bonded. Wherever she went, he followed, and the two formed an unbreakable bond. She named him Arlier, the Atlantean word for 'overflow.' She trained him perfectly. He could sit, rear onto his hind legs and sit, pose in just about any way possible, and knew how to be careful with every part of him.
When she grew, it was time for her to be wed. He was a part of her dowry, and went with her to live with his girl and her new husband. He was not particularly fond of the man, but tolerated him for the sake of his girl. They had children, and he helped them learn to ride, gentle as a dove. He loved his family as much as he loved his little girl.
Their happiness was unfortunately cut short. Atlantis' power had corrupted, and they sought to expand their kingdom into an empire. The Gods grew angry with Atlantis, and after their warnings were ignored, they brought punishment down upon their tarnished jewel. Poseidon turned the sea on the island kingdom. The sky churned and the sea swelled, swallowing the legendary city forever.
Arlier's separation from his beloved lady was heartbreaking for him. As the sea raised it's head to claim the island, she told him to flee, told him to take to the ocean and save those of his kind. He could save his kind as Atlantis' prized jewels and keep some little bit of their legend alive. He fled with reluctance and rounded up a band of his kind and fled into the receding tide. The waves parted to let them through. Poseidon would not take their lives, as they had done no wrong. As the glowing horses left their island home, the waves took the island completely, leaving no trace of the kingdom and shrouding it's existence in legend forever.
As none of the horses wanted to go to new humans, they sought help from the Gods, who scattered bands of the glowing creatures across dimensions and across the world in secluded regions where humans would never find them. Orich and his band were sent to another world completely. They lived in a deep forest as newly feral horses.
Through the passing years, they discovered that a human settlement was nearby, and they would occasionally see their awestruck and fearful faces in windows at night if they strayed to close to the village. On observation, the humans only had basic horses-- hard working drafts, sporty warmbloods, and the occasional exotic and hot blooded. None of them bore the cool glowing colors and patterns that the Atlanteans valued and cultured, and so they were greeted with an air of mystery. None of them partook in human contact unless they could avoid it.
One day, millenniums later, a girl with brown and blue hair came to him in the forest, unafraid and bearing an apple. He gladly accepted it, but not without caution-- the girl was armed with a sword at her hip. She apologized to him for coming with weapons, but that she didn't know if he would attack her or not. Amused and somewhat perplexed by the girl, he vanished at dawn's light, only to return to that spot in the forest each night for the next two weeks to see her there. At the end of that period, she offered to take him home with her-- a different world. Seeing his former owner in her, he eagerly accepted.

Orich is one of three Legendary Hallucinogen horses in the group, meaning he's had some sort of historical influence or legend surrounding him. He led a band of horses from Atlantis during it's fall, preserving the Atlantean strain of Hallucinogens.
Sorry for the wall of text xD Orich is also sort of a character, so I kind of... get carried away.
I used the Atlantean language dictionary foundhere for the Atlantean used in his story. I've been using it for years, and I'm glad it still exists. (My copy of the dictionary is actually printed out.)
I am really pleased with the overall look of this piece. That background, bros.
I wish I could produce art like this ALL THE TIME for my stables but I am far too lazy lmfao xD

*cries* I LOVE HIM SO. It's good to see him looking so good again! Not that he ever looked bad... but I'm tired and hoping what I'm saying makes sense!
I got and idea! I've had it since I read his background for Seance but have yet to write it out. BUT basically. Apollo's four sun horses will be featured, and when studying mythology there's a lot of messed up stuff (like, the story of how Centuar was created) so, I was thining perhaps they were tempted by some horses made entirely of water by Posideon while Apollo's horses were resting at Atlantis after charging through the skies and BAM. The hallus were created!
Then, later on, the survivors of the Cimmerian Cave Horse breed merged in to a Hallu herd, which introduced the Sombus gene to the herds.
And I've got no clue about the really light ones yet >.<
Feel free to add some imput!

LOL IT'S OK. He just demanded to be drawn and I wanted to sort of do something for his "Legendary Reference" or whatever. If/when you get around to making a sheet for that, I'll probably take this picture of him and slap it on xDDD
I like that! I also want to incorporate the legend of Atlantis' power source into his story. It could also be that the teal-y Aecor coloration could have been spurned from the sea-born Atlantean Hallus.
The light ones... Idek either D: Maybe something to do with a holy blessing or a star? Like the EXTREMELY light ones could probably border on white with a slightly tinted color to their coat...? Idk. A fallen star seems like a cool idea to me xDDD
