Description
I call it the nineties Invincible because of the excessive cross-hatching I used here. To make it truly 90's I know I shoulda added pouches and shoulder pades and spikes and huge guns, but hey, this is all I got for now so sit down and LIKE IT! heh. Or hate it. I love you.Related content

I like this reaction a lot better than last issues reaction... but I still can't believe that Kirkman actually put it in! I hope you got writing credits for this one! Awesome.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ohh man this drawing made my day. it would be awesome if you also did a "Wild C.A.T.S." look for the gardians of the globe, that would be as much, of not more hilarious than this. yet you did actualy make it look really good, props to you on that Wya. i guess if i had a hi-rez version of this i would try to go all "Scott Williams" on it with the inking.

I'm normally a fan of your clean linework Wya, but this is quite a treat.
Honestly though, shouldn't the feet in the "My mask!" shot be hidden behind random piles of dirt for that authentic Liefeld look?

Well the panel part had nothing to do with the 90's part, I was only reffering to the ultra radical crosshatching to tha extreme.

Aw Jesus, what does it say about me that I actually like this....alot. I guess it's the cross hatching or something. Of cours,e you could've gone all "Liefeld" like you said, but this has the classic anti-hero look too.....hehe even the unshaved beer swilling bar fight kind of guy here....
Like the touch with the signature, that was pretty freaking prevalent then huh?

Yeah I have a hard time drawing like this and stay serious. Lots of lines just excite people for some reason. I should do a whole issue of somethin someday just like this, see how it flies.

Is that a Dale Keown reference? I don't remember his signature but I remember his INTENSE cross hatching.

RyanOttley In reply to tomsaville [2006-06-27 17:23:46 +0000 UTC]
No, I was reffering to a bunch of artists back in the 90's who did TONS of cross hatching, it adds a lot of energy and sometimes they used it cover up things so they wouldn't have to draw it. Like that hand for example. Keown is great, I still love his stuff, other popular artists from the 90's are Mcfarlane, Jim Lee, Liefeld, Portacio, and alot of them loved signing thier names on a piece of drawn parchment or something, and it was always BIG.

Tell me there's a scene like that in the comic.
Not... not necessarily the bit where Mark eviscerates his best friend, but I can totally see him trying out the mask.
90's version hasn't got enough teeth.

Funny you say that. Robert liked the idea so much he is going to write it in an issue. Not the blood part but yeah, the mask part.

Just so you know...I just covered my keyboard with a spray of Dr. Pepper and I'm more saddened at the loss of the great tasting Dr. Pepper than I am about the smoking keyboard.
You bastard...thanks for the laugh and the trip down memory lane.

HA! Exactly. And did you notice the hand on the far left? They did that ALOT, just sketch out the outer line of a hand and then fill it in with cross-hatching, they wouldn't even block in the form. HA!
