Description Kinda fun doing tight pencils for a change, much quicker than inking myself and it's always nice seeing what Cliff does with the inks.
FCO did some awesome colors on this panel as well. You should all tell him to post Invincible art, he's doing such a great job. Bug him here>

Very nice perspective angle! Its good to see a fully developed cityscape, as opposed to rudimentary outlining or silhouettes that artists do to "shortcut" a scene.

Something tells me those troopers are about to get whooped! Awesome action scene! Someone commented on the hand, and I must say I really like how you work with hands, which are absolutely indispensable to show expression/emotion along with face gestures and body language. The index finger shooting up expresses tension and readiness for action as well as the fingers spread wide. I don't know if this comes naturally or you try different hand poses before deciding. Either way they add a lot and separate your art from the crowd! Awesome work as usual.

Thanks for the comment! Sometimes I get a pose of a hand or a whole body right the first time, other times I need to try out things over and over.

Also you get extra points for being friends with my hero Alan Tew.

Both of your figure work blows my minds out of my brains and such and soforth. You two must spend all day practicing drawing dancers and contortionists to get such fluid and dynamic poses.

Well I saw the TPB of the first few issues and was really impressed by the whole thing. I like how it's not, so far as I've seen, ironic or stupidly broody. It seems like a good old fashioned (sort of) "Hey, I've got super-powers! Neat!" kind of story.

Awesome work! The lines have a great flowing energy to them, and the level of detail throughout the composition is impressive. The foreground person's middle finger looks kinda stunted, though. Is that just foreshortening?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RyanOttley In reply to DSil [2008-10-25 21:05:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah his finger is suppose to be bent down a bit. I try to make hand poses less uniform at times.

thelearningcurv [2008-10-25 16:54:36 +0000 UTC]

do you use reference when you create your environments?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RyanOttley In reply to thelearningcurv [2008-10-25 17:06:23 +0000 UTC]

Only if I need to. I hate looking up ref but sometimes you need it for things that you honestly don't know how to draw. Like cars, I don't study cars enough so drawing a realistic one is hard without ref.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

thelearningcurv In reply to RyanOttley [2008-10-25 18:25:13 +0000 UTC]

so you've basically been drawing buildings for long enough that you can do a variety of things to them to create your own environment? I've only done two really realized backgrounds, so reference is what I need

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RyanOttley In reply to thelearningcurv [2008-10-25 21:11:32 +0000 UTC]

I try to keep ref of buildings lying around for when I need it, drawing them from your head they tend to end up looking alike and boring. So it's always good to get ideas here and there from ref.
