Description
The akurian Aranik battlecruiser follows a fairly classical battlecruiser concept, a battleship tonnage warship with reduced armor and main battery firepower in exchange for increased speed and improved secondary and missile firepower. Volume wise, the Aranik is actually more voluminous that a Morveka class battleship, but the less dense hull means that its tonnage is similar to the Morveka. That being said, even though it is less armored than a battleship, it is not completely unprotected. it is still more well armored than a large cruiser and isn't going to explode if a capital ship caliber weapon looks at it funny. In fleet actions, battlecruisers are typically designed to operate on the flanks of battleship fleets, where they can maneuver to get to the sides and rear of enemy formations. Because they tend to operate more independently that is why they have heavier secondary weapons to allow them to deal with strike craft and swarm attacks from small ships better.
