Actually, I am quite open to debate, just not with them. I already tried, and we simply went in circles, despite my best efforts.
No offense to your work, but I personally find clones, blackmail, and mind control to be lazy cop-outs for actual character development. Many peoples make the mistake of treating characters as being set in stone, when that is simply not the case. A well defined character is like any real person; constantly growing and changing, based on their experiences in life. This doesn't just apply to their body and abilities, but to their personality, as well. The problem is when authors decide to simply change a character without reason. That's not character development, that's just bad writing.
Characters, like stories in whole, have to be shaped naturally. Only then will people truly enjoy reading it.

Respecting the original work of the creator means acknowledging all of said work, however. Most males, and I would agree with you. However, the original manga shows Ranma acting much differently around Ryoga than any other male in the series. Fans who only watch the anime, which left out a LOT of manga content, never get to see that.
Another thing is that you automatically linked 'woman' with 'submissive'. NONE of the women in that series could honestly be called submissive, (with the possible exception of Kasumi,) so there is no reason to assume that Ranma's personality would change in that regard.

Ranma with Shampoo or Ukyo is fine, even Kodachi I can see if Ranma is really desperate.
But he would NEVER date a guy...
