Nice modeling so far. It's kinda tall though. It looks like you could push it over
Maybe you should scale the whole body along the X axis. That would make it look more tank like i guess
Good work though

Thanks bro...
I know what you're talking about, I thought the same thing and tried scaling it, but it made it look worse... To do what you ask I would have to mess with the individual polygons, and thats a pain at this point in time... Plus... I think its pretty hard to tip over a hover-vehicle...
Thanks for the comment anyway...

Hmm... the shell is interesting. I'd say, remive that odd split panneling from the surface and replace it with a more stylized but sturdy-looking armor.

What do you suggest for "a more stylized but sturdy-looking armor" ???

Loose the blocky texture! Make it look more... hard looking.

Lol, will keep that in mind for the next model dude. This one's out for the count, I'm getting tired of seeing it so much

Hey!! Cool lookin' model man. I like the peanut shell shape. I also like the placement of the weapons. I'm lookin' forward to the textured version.

Great one. You're getting better and better with your modelling skills, no doubt. I hope I can keep up with you somehow, that would be great
To be more exact - great details and a pretty interesting design of the tank. It seems to be a very well thought out model because of the rather complex shape. I'm not sure if good design is of any use in combat but here, at dA it is definitely great.
Hope to see a textured version, too, as I'm really interested in how you do texturing. I simply suck at it...(as you will see soon when I submit my new work ;_; ).

Lol, you really think so? I'm honored that you say it .
Lol, yeah, you're right about design and combat, but oh well, if it would have been for combat specs, I could've just instead gotten a box and added a cannon to it ...
Allright then, I hope to hear from you when I upload the textured version, and I'm looking forward to that new work of yours

Great stuff man. well done on the detail. So what's the scene going to be?

Thanks a lot bro..
I was thinking a rather destroyed urban setting, perhaps midday or nightime, camera low to the ground (some DoF will be awesome) and one of these puppies facing the camera with the gun twisted to the side and shooting... I also wanna make the power of the gun visible by making it kick up a lot of dust\debris... How does that sound?
I see it that a really detailed model demands a really detailed scene...

sounds awesome - specially if you can get that shockwave from the gun look great on a still render. I think that'll be the main priority of the scene, the power of the gun.

Aye aye... Give me your opinion on a lil something... What would be a better time for the scene... Midday or late afternoon?

Serve In reply to s2f [2005-10-18 20:50:15 +0000 UTC]
given this tank - stealth is no option. I'd say late afternoon. then you can maybe play a bit with a few silhoetes (what's the spelling here?) plus it'll make the lighting interesting.

Yeah I was bending towards that side... However, after seeing most of my scenes, almost all of them are in the same time of day... Where light is scarce so it creates a rather interesting effect... Which is not bad, but I don't want to seem like I'm repeating the same stuff over and over again...
I was also thinking that if I did do this time of day then I could put the sunset right there behind the tank... In a good memory to the old Devourer's scene... That would be kind of cool... Watcha think?

Serve In reply to s2f [2005-10-18 21:00:29 +0000 UTC]
hmm....yeah - that's a good scene right there - but a bit cliche...
How about putting the sun right behind the target in the distance with a trail of smoke as the shell travels towards it? That'd make a funny angle on the devourer itself tho...so go with your suggestion.
I was thinking more of this tank providing cover for other units comming over a ridge or something - the silhoettes which you can do in photoshop if you dont have models. Or providing cover for more devourers comming over the ridge.

s2f In reply to Serve [2005-10-18 21:19:40 +0000 UTC]
Nah, I dont really wanna add more units (at least not visible to the camera for that matter) I just want the Devourer like "in your face!" type of thing... Maybe with two or three others on the back also shooting (yeah that would be cool if I have enough negative space left)...
So yeah it is kinda cliche but I think im gonna go for the orangish desert sunset (in memoir of the old scene... Get it? Ice\Desert - Sunrise\Sunset) right behind or close enough to the tank... perhaps shinning between two buildings right above it... And on a destroyed urban setting... that way i can have plenty of debris for the cannon to kick up...

hold on there - you're tank is grey...in the latest post? Well, i suppose you can always change the material. But try a naval or jungle scene?

Yeah this is the "factory" camo color... You know... Let's call it "Space Camo" for kicks...
But yeah, whenever it is needed the tank can easily be repainted for whatever mission there is... (Meaning that all's I gotta do is more the color slider and voila!)

Here's a thought: the driver's field of view is pretty limited.
Damn fine model though, good stuff

True that, but isn't it the same case on modern tanks? Unless they stick their head out?? lol... But nah, these people got all sort of instrumentation inside to compensate so it's cool
