SAI Trial/In English: [link]
Where to Buy Sai: [link]
Paypal NEEDED! to buy SAI
Cost: roughly $65 USD at the current exchange rate.
This is the first step in coloring for me ?A?;; I mask things. same as last time: I Spell bad, and I'm not always clear, so tell me if it's hard to understand.
And I decided i can't make a coloring tutorial because i can't explain how to do it with words. But i have plenty of speed paints on you tube [link] and if you can't make sense of what I'm doing watching them, learn your program better yourself by playing with it. I can't teach you common sense. :I

But I need help in something not so related.
I got 2 files, a lineart and another image, I want to move that image to the lineart, but how?
On photoshop is pretty simple, just need to drag, but didnt figure out in SAI

May I ask a question? I have the line art, then I make a folder under it and mask it, just like you did. But when I try to color on it or do anything with it, it says "Cannot apply this operation to selected layer" Help me please. >.<

just to get things clear for me, you aren't actually trying to color on the folder are you? Cause even if you mask a folder, you need to create layer in that folder to color on.

I have a question, when I select with the magic wand, it selects the entire canvas. Do you know why?
Great tutorial though.

hope this helps...when you use wand you can observe that the detection mode is transparency (strict)
you can change the mode to color difference so it will only select closed lines ..heheh .then try to adjust the level of it ..
i just discovered this yesterday..hope it helps
and if you find some parts not selected in a closed area just use the select tool then select the smaller parts that were not selected by the wand,,
hehehehe.please comment on my works,,it helps me grow

oh oh I have a question!!
why can't you just color in the base color when you have the magic wand tool select the area already, and then fill in the white spots with the pen tool?
I really don't get the point of masking, heck i don't even know what it means o_O
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SakuraChan776 In reply to tenmuki [2009-08-07 21:32:10 +0000 UTC]
if i understand the question right, the answere is :M because it would be too annoying and tedious. Also i would have to color inside the line! are you kidding me *flips over table*
The point of masking is this: [link]
that's what my art looks like with out masks :M

tenmuki In reply to SakuraChan776 [2009-08-08 08:04:34 +0000 UTC]
lol... I usually just use the magic wand and select the area, color in the base and fill in the spots... then for the shading, I just use new layers with the cliping layer thing to the original~~~

Thank you for making this! I've been curious about the mask button, but I didn't really have any clue how to use it. xD; And you've reminded me to use folders... (I forgot Sai had them, and I've been having issues with cluttered layers.)
This is such a big help, thank you.

Yay! Thanks again for making these!
I usually am too lazy, so I copy the lineart layer and use the fill tool to make the flat colours... all on one layer @___@
This looks like it wouldn't be too difficult too :3
