I have a tablet, but I didn't use it on this. I really don't use it that much. At work, I use a mouse for the vast majority of my work... At home, I use that little square on the laptop that you draw on with your finger? I forget what you call it...

I use the pen tool and the pathfinder (it lets you combine shapes and cut one shape out of another and stuff like that) for 90% of my Illustrator drawing. It's essentially stacking shapes and grouping them together. I use illustrator so much that when I'm out looking at objects and people, my mind starts thinking about how I would draw it in Illustrator! LOL!

I draw with shapes. On this, I drew the head first by making a silhouette (ex. a couple ellipses to make the skull/jaw, then draw shapes with the pen to fill in), then I draw the shadows back into it to define it. The body is a bunch of shapes stretched then combined together. I drew one arm and leg, then copied and pasted for the other side...

Thanks for the reply! I'm pretty new to digital media so it is good to hear about how other people go about drawing on a computer.

No problem... I know how it is. I was very slow to get into digital art, and didn't like it at all at first. I do a lot of things differently than my friends that use these programs. It's definitely good to see others use them to see what the programs can do. I like to buy old "For Dummies" books to learn the basics. You can probably get them at the library too.

Thanks. I really love this character! I grew up in a military town, and there were lots of Somoan people. I tried to design the character to be fun, but honest. Not making fun of Somoans but still having fun.
