Description
The turtle has embarkedOn a noble quest
It’s goal: to find a sandwich.
It wafts slowly towards its destination
As all around it, busy penguins run.
They have yet to realize that half of them
Are running backwards.
Poor flightless birds.
The goal has been reached!
The sandwich obtained!
The turtle is now satisfied.
But the search for sustenance
Is not over yet.
The turtle continues it’s steady gait
Onwards to a new canapé.
All the world is frittering away,
Chattering like mad penguins
Ever searching, ever digging.
How often do they stop to think,
“What are we looking for?”
The turtle knows.
Perhaps, some day, some clever fellow
Will think to squat down
And he will ask the turtle,
“What is the meaning of life?”
To which the turtle will reply
With the air of one explaining to a child,
“The meaning is now what it has always been;
To get a sandwich.”
