Description It is cold outside and as I am not sick
I must go out and play with the other children.
I hope to be ill, so that I might go home,
But, unfortunately, this is not the case.
So I will sit under the platform
And not play with the other children.

I tried to play rough-and-tumble
But the boys wouldn’t let me in their game.
I wanted to throw my ball against the wall
But the teacher said I might break a window.
Instead I will sit under the platform
And not play with the other children.

When I go home, I will have fun.
Climbing trees and running through the woods.
I will throw sticks for dogs to chase.
I will get into trouble and tear my dungarees.
But for now I will sit under the platform
And not play with the other children.

They say I’ll go to h-e-double-hockey-sticks
Because I don’t attend church on Sunday.
What would they say, I can’t help but think,
If they knew about my Goddesses?
I wonder as I sit under the platform
And not play with the other children.

The other day, a girl who was crying
Came to my hiding-spot and confided in me.
The next day she pretends not to know me
As she plays with her friends. I’m the freak
Who sits under the platform
And doesn’t play with the other children.

I hear people’s footsteps pass overhead
And dust from their shoes fills the air.
I’m reading one of my favourite books
As I desperately try to shut out the world.
I’d rather sit under the platform
And not play with the other children.
