It was replaced with suspicion.
the man selling them is suspect... why does he do that? how much can he make? ... the balloons themselves become suspect as well... they have popped on you so many times before...
I miss it.

I was a strange kid. Whenever I got a balloon I thought it was my best friend. And so, when it would finally burst, I would cry my eyes out..just because I had lost my best friend.
No wonder I'm such a messed up adult

y luego desperte.

What happened to the times when all you needed to be happy was a balloon?
What a BEAUTIFUL time that was !!!!!
What a Beautiful scene,...it's hard for me to describe the emotions running thru my mind as I see and read the words on your pics !!....they are truly a poem to the fine and rare things we miss in our daily 'rush-rush-rush' !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think your work touches places,... we sometimes don't wat to go to !
when I remember, I pray for those who have to bear the possibility of dying in the streets !
Against the backdrop of new modern cities like Houston, that reality seems like such a distant world,....forgotten or unknown by many !
I praise your constant effort to present this work and do it in a beautiful and artistic way !!!
.........

i like bursting balloons, hearing their loud pops. blowing them up is a whole other matter though.
nice combination of images. you definitely have a strong photojournalist style in your work i wish there were a bit more light on the top balloon guy tho, and little less blur on the bottom guy, but i gotta admit, i like the bottom image more, probably because of the contrast between the balloon man, his massive round balloon, and the two 'kids' walking past. it just balances out all nicely.

p. d. BIEN POR LOS RAYADOS CHINGAOS!

Beautiful. These are both very emotional captures that bring back a lot of memories. Wonderful as always, especially the top one. I think the most fascinating thing about this is in the first picture--the balloons seem old fashioned and bring back childhood memories of simple happiness, but right behind this man and his lovely balloons is an Office Depot. I didn't even notice that until I began to comment and looked at the photograph again. I love the extinction series, I hope it continues. Thank you for all you do.

Balloons are still enough to make me happy. And more than that, this picture makes me happy - especially the top one, where I originally thought a kid had got trapped in the ballons and only the legs were sticking out. Then I realised it wasn't a 'real' kid - then I thought how cool would that be, though? heheee!
Brilliant work, H.
