Description A lot of people ask me about how I got started painting, and I always say that my roots were in traditional watercolors. Here's a very old painting I managed to dig out of the storeroom.
It's just a copy from a picture in an animal book, if I remember correctly.

These are amazing. May I ask how big your traditional paintings usually are? (along with the cats and hummingbird one). All the details are just astounding! I'm also curious, how were you able to do the whites of the fur and highlights of the feathers in the hummingbirds?

I love the way you did the stones and the water. Do you remember how you painted those fine white hairs on his forelegs? The only thing I can think of is gouache but I know very little about this medium.

In my watercolor set, there was this tube of white watercolor paint. It's opaque and quite thick. That's what I used for the hairs. (and also a very fine brush)

Wow, it's so great to see traditional works from you. I love colors they look so in-balance and natural. I'd totally love to see a fantasy themed picture (like the awesome ones you do in digital) someday!

It's been more than ten years since I've touched watercolors, it'll take a long time before i can match the digital ones with watercolors.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NovaEden In reply to sandara [2013-11-28 21:20:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that's right, it will take some time to get on that level, but still creating slowly pieces (I know how it feels like, when you create something in a new medium or haven't used since ages, and sometimes it feels like "hey it isn't good as my recent-medium piece!") traditional pieces is always a step. This one already is good and I wonder how it will be like after a few next pieces next. Same it was with my digital where I had very hard time to "break through it" and I feel like I'm catching a flow and soon I'll be on similar level like Β with my traditional as my main medium. Honestly, I'm already quite curious for your next traditional works :>

Good luck! <3
