I love all the little comments and notes on here, they're the actual greatest.

While I am quite in love with the idea of ponyhammer and love your adaptations of the races, I do have one bugbear: With magic replacing psychic power I can't help but notice the dark eldeer is using it.
Their bipedal counterparts dear not use their inherent psychic power out of fear of attracting the attention of "She who thirst". So what is different in the ponyhammer universe and why?
Edit: I know that those pyramids exist but I have been hard pressed to find out what they actually are. Β

To be perfectly honest, I have little to no idea about the Dark Eldar as a race. I'd only realised the Dark Eldar's aversion to psychic powers months after I'd done this piece. XP
I'll probably try to stick with that state of affairs in Ponyhammer,, but I really need to learn more about their actual 40k counterparts before I make any hard decisions.Β
ps: The more I read about the Dark Eldar, the more their debased and hedonistic nature reveals itself. I'm really contemplating if I want to tone these elements down or really dig into it as I explore them as a race. I suppose how I treat the Dark Eldeer will ultimately affect how I deal with Discord, or vice versa.
ps2: I'm thinking they're some sort of psychically latent artifacts. Or some sort of storage device for all the psychic energy of their torture victims. Or maybe, it's just some cool glowing thingy. XD

The element I associate with the Dark Eldar is their ego.Β They feel like they've the right to experience every sensation imaginable, and to hell with anyone who isn't elder, who can't understand their "needs."Β In fact, to hell with everyone elseΒ in Commorragh, they're just that entitled.Β Therefore, even though they would fit in perfectly with Slaaneshi worshipers, they refuse to let him/her touch any part of their souls.Β
May I also offer a suggestion on the Eldeer physical aspects?Β Try doing something with the horns.Β Here, you've made this set clearly menacing.Β Put the Dark Eldar also have extreme body alteration habits, so you could get really creative/disturbing with the sets that these guys have (even if the females could only have some through helmets [or extreme mutation if you want]).Β Whereas the Eldeer would go for more natural beauty.Β

These are all great ideas, thanks.
I think I'm going to have as much fun mutilating the Dark Eldeer as I'd have mutating the followers of Discord.Β

Well it seems like the problem has been solved. Since acording to lexicanum: "Dark Eldar, like most Eldar kindreds, make use of advanced technology, including anti-gravity devices, darkmatter weponry, nanotechnology and psychic artefacts. However, this technology is manufactured instead of being psychically grown, and while Dark Eldar do make use of psychic devices, they do not use psychic powers themselves, for in order to use their gifts Psykers must channel the chaotic energies of the Warp. Such an act would attract the gaze of She Who Thirsts and invite disaster upon the entire race" So yes they have psychic devices.
I also finally found out what the pyramid is, it is a Sould-Trap and it does exactly what it says on the tin.
Ps. Since the warp is not a thing in ponyhammer (atleast i do not think it is) how will you handle the gods of discord?

Sanity-X In reply to ioncannon-mk4 [2014-08-13 11:03:40 +0000 UTC]
Sweet! I definitely need to do way more research on the various races that inhabit the 40k universe. My focus is on the Luna Heresy at the moment, so I'm right up to here with Primarch and pre-heresy shenanigans. *gestures to neckline*
ps: The warp is definitely gonna be a thing in Ponyhammer. The gods of Discord will be squatting in the Immaterium and causing all sorts of mischief.

Hmm. I am curious how you will handle the warp in that case since unlike psychic powers in warhammer, magic seems far more stable (with the exception of things like "inspiration manifestation") and also unlike 40k it is not limited to a select few in fact all ponies have access to it in some form and around a third of them are able to use abilities that are very similar to the psykers of 40k.
So knowing this how will the astropaths be represented, (dragons sending messages maybe)?
But more importantly how will you approach the Astronomican? Sacrificing a 100 ponies a day just to power a glorified lighthouse does not seem like something a pony (especially not Celestia) could sanction no matter it's importance to the empire.

Sanity-X In reply to ioncannon-mk4 [2014-08-14 01:07:36 +0000 UTC]
I'll be taking a page from Warhammer Fantasy, where the Immaterium is really a well of magic that pours into reality. When tears to the warp were created by certain apocalyptic events in history, this magic flowed freely into the universe. The magically inclined who could control this new power became magnified in their abilities; while those who couldn't became uncontrolled conduits of magic, becoming a danger to everything.
In Equestria, a great distrust of unicorns began to grow after the part they played in the Age of Strife. While Celestia tried her best to protect the unicorns from that stigma, her disappearance after the events of the Luna Heresy led organisations, such as the Ordo Hereticus, to hunt down and persecute unsanctioned unicorns, leading to a great depletion of their numbers in Equestrian society.
I haven't quite nailed down what I'd do about astropathic messages, but I'm pretty sure there will be unicorns who will fulfil that task as Astropaths.
The upkeep of the Astronomicon is also something I haven't quite nailed down yet, but I won't be surprised if Equestria would condone such sacrifices. The Ponyhammer universe is pretty bleak, and sacrifices will have to be made, even if it goes against everything they believe in.

Well I do like the idea of taking cues from warhammer fantasy considering mlp is a fantasy universe.
But it is painful to hear the ponies descend into the mentality of witch hunts. Well more to eat for the windigos I suppose. (Do windigos still exist? Are they some form of demons? That would make sense because of their connection to emotions.)
Β
The effect of the Astronomican would likely not lead to death in ponyhammer now when I think on it. It would more likely be the same as when TirekΒ stole magic. Leaving them powerless and without their cutiemark since in the end it would be their magic it would be powered by, not their life. But they would still be ruined for the rest of their life, left talent less and with little to no motivation to keep going likely. :,(
You would hope that it could be done in moderation and allow for the pony to recover. But that might not be bleak enough.

I haven't quite found a place for wendigos yet, but they'll probably take their place among the creatures of the warp.
I really like your idea about the unicorn magic depletion. I'll probably head to that direction for the powering of the Astronomican. ^_^

The cats first turned against Celestia millennia ago, when she _dumped a horde of Changelings_ in their humble capital. (Never did apologize, either). [1]
[1] Dare I use an MLP comic reference?

Totally.Β The comics definitely do more to fill up more of the MLP bestiary, and are really exotic, so I think pointing them out could go a long ways in giving Sanity some ideas.
