Again, awful with titles...So, I've finally given my favourite game a proper tribute, and here it is, something I've been using all my art time to create.
The composition was quite difficult to begin with, the character placements were completely different to how they've turned out here and that was one of the main problems, figuring out where everything goes.
I tried to go for a more stylised look with that characters and just letting the sketches flow to what my mind was thinking at the time, you can see it in some places, mainly Vivi's slight bump in is face where a nose should go, giving him some character to the black void that black mages have for faces.
So happy with how this turned out. I hope other fans enjoy what I've done!
Done in Photoshop CS6 in about 12 hours (spread over 3 weeks)
*EDIT* Changed the background as it made the main illustration more eye catching.

Heh, to make it short so I don't start fangasming again, you have no idea how much I love this game... seriously, if after the countless RPGs I've played, let alone video games in general, a title still manages to hold a place among my ultimate favs, it really means a lot... and to see this marvellous title get such an astounding tribute piece... dood, I'd say this truly made my day... but this made my entire week...

Hehe, and I have a similar case, been playin' since I was around 5-6 which was 22 years ago, has been a fan of the FF series ever since the first 3 parts I had for my NES (FF1 in English, FF2 as a German bootleg, and FF3 in Japanese), but I was genuinely amazed how FFIX stood out... it was just so... "magical"...
There are other titles I value just as much, hell, there's Valkyrie Profile that is my unquestionable number one game ever, but FFIX is special in it's own way ^^
Heh, all this kinda makes me wanna clear the game once more, hehe, and I just got it from the US PS Store too >3

Nice. I started my FF "journey" with IV, I didn't like it much at first with it being quite difficult when you're not experienced in RPG's and I spent months stuck on the Frankenstein type boss, I only really heavily got back into the games with VI. I played that to death and nobody else was interested in it until VII came out here, then everyone under the sun was saying how amazing the series was, although it was good it didn't have the same hold on me as IV and VI.
Fun fact being V is the only one I haven't played through.
Valkyrie Profile, I kept meaning to go back to that, my wife has played more of it than I have

Well, considering how hard the original FFI was, FFIV was a breeze later on |3
But I have to admit, FFVI has made a huge impression on me and is tied with FFIX (and the PSX FF Tactics) as my favourite part of the series ^^
As for VII, well, all things considered, it was an awesome game on it's own, even if the fanbase overhypes it a lot. And even though the sequels (as in VII sequels, not FF sequels in general XD) are rubbish, the original FFVII game was great, even if lower than VI, IX and tactics on my personal list |D
And well, I don't think you want to get me started on VP |D
Hehe, lets just say that once I start talking about this particular game, it takes a lot to shut me up |D it is still by far my most favourite game ever ^^

Indeed. I would love to see HD remasters of the PSX trilogy. No changing of the narrative or gameplay, just re-render the backgrounds and cutscenes and improve the character models, it wouldn't take too long and the sales would be amazing.
