Description Our little puzzle-platform game is online!

Wake is about a little spirit who has the power to switch between dreams and nightmares. He has to save his friends who are stuck in an eternal sleep.

Download the app here in the Google Play Store ! (Sorry, no iOS!)
It is still a demo, which means the game is short and not bug-free. But, like I said before, we will keep working on it for the next four weeks, so please give us feedback so we can improve on this first version! And be honest, if you don't like it, please say so, so we can learn from our mistakes!

I made all the art for this game, which means the backgrounds, items and animations. :3
Feedback on the art is also very welcome.

I liked what I've played so far. And I agree with the person below, there should be arrows showing how to move your character. It took me 5 minutes of flipping my device around to figure out how to move

The art and animations look great. I did have problems with the jumping puzzles because the jumpy rings were hidden in the grass and the rope swing was a little finicky imo. This game seems like it's gonna be awesome though

We thought about adding a how-to-play screen, but right before the release we dropped it XD In the next release of the game there will be visible buttons or at least some explanation, sorry about that!

We'll probably drop the jumping platforms. We had standard jumping first, but during testing we found that there were too many controls on the screen, so we decided to drop jumping. Now we'll try to make a joystick in one corner of the screen and a jump button in the other and see what that does.

I'm glad you like the art so far!

Edit: hmm two reviews? Both 5 stars? They wouldn't happen to be your two colleagues now would they? P:

One of them definitely is, yes.
The other one has an Iphone like me, so I'm wondering how that's possible, though.

I beat the game just now. :3
Took me about 5-8 minutes.

So far the largest tidbits of feedback would be:

-You should show the player where to press to move left, right, and switch worlds. Either via a quick flash at the start, or by showing the player the buttons in the menu

-There's a bug where if you press the pause button, then select main menu and then try to play, it won't let you move. You can only switch between worlds. (You can fix this by pressing the Pause button again, and hitting Resume or Restart.)

-Towards the end of the level my character grew flatter, and his animations started to screw up. (Not sure if this was intentional )

-The parallax for the backgrounds could be a bit slower.

-You can't press the 'go back' button on your phone to close the game. Only the home button. (You should also perhaps show a prompt for if you really want to close down the game or not)

-When you press the home button to try and close the game down, it still runs in the background. Slowly consuming your phone's battery.

Besides that, it's a decent little challenge. :3
The switching idea for platforming isn't all that new, but, it's not that badly implented here.

I'll be looking forward to see what it'll turn into over the few next weeks!

Wow, thanks for your elaborate feedback! My colleages were wondering if you know a thing about game design or two because you give such technical descriptions XD

1. We have discussed visible controls but in the end decided on invisible buttons to make the game world more visible. We had a how-to-play screen in mind but in the end we scrapped it. You bet it's on our to do list again.
We'll also scrap the jump platforms and make a jump button (again).

2. Is gonna be fixed in the next update!

3. It was not intentional. >< Hopefully fixed in the next update as well, it's a little more tricky to fix than 2. (the swinging rope is by far the most technically advanced script of the whole game XD)

4. Will look at it!

5. Should be fixed in the next update.

6. I had a discussion with my collegues about it, they considered it normal. We're working on it to make the game at least pause when you leave the game that way, but we don't know if that actually helps with battery consumption. I suppose other games also keep running in the background, they do on an Iphone. :/

We know the switch idea isn't that original, but yeah, it sounded fun! XD Maybe we'll try to fit in other game elements to make the game more original, but we don't consider it our top priority right now. :/
