Caught this going through my tutorials to see if any of them needed to be updated. I did one on more photorealisic lightning that I figure is time to update a little bit, and saw this in the 'more like this' box. Great tutorial. Covers a few things I don't really think of when I do it

great tutorial,
but may I ask why you set the layer to overlay?

heya!
I don't set the layer to overlay...
it is the brush setting which I change to overlay...
it helps create a more vivid "glow", compared to the normal setting. (however if I want the colors to be more flat, i don't use this)

Thanks for this informative tutorial! I have one question though. I know how to set a layer to overlay, but how do I set a brush to overlay? Is that option only available in later Photoshop versions? I have Photoshop 5.5, so it's pretty old...

Hi! Oh my! Hm you're missing out on a lot.. I'm using CS2 (since cs5 is out) and it's a bit outdated already.. that brush setting might not be there yet in 5.5... I suggest you get a newer photoshop! (in photoshop cs2, the brush setting i specified is up beside the opacity & flow sliders)
