Description Okay, I want everyone to pay attention to this deviation. It is my first set of figure drawings EVER. Next semester I am going to have lots of figure study classes, and at the end, I will refer back to this to show a definate level of improvement.

I loved doing these studies, and they have already improved my drawing skills (after just 3 hours!). It makes me eager to see what next semester has in store for me.

The model was a really interesting guy. He reminded me of Asheville and its denizens. Oh how I miss that city.

Later today I am going to post some sketches I did freehand without references to show what doing this has given me.

While I know these aren't perfect drawings, they aren't bad by any means. I've certainly done worse.

Please feel free to comment or critique these or any other works here. I would very much appreciate it.

P.S. All of these were 4 or 5 minute studies.

edit: Here are the drawings I mentioned I drew without reference.

Hello! I was doing a search on AAU images and found your gallery. Welcome to AAU, it's cool to see other AAU ppl out there who are on DA. I'm in my senior year there, finishing up a modeling degree. Hand in there with the drawing classes, especially figure drawing. You'll start getting better and better, especially after you get more comfortable with using charcoal. You've seemed to have gotten the proportions down well, especially torso height compared to leg height. My only advice would be to change the way you are holding your charcoal. By the way the lines are, I can almost bet you are holding them like you would a pencil or pen. Instead, hold it between your thumb and index finger (kinda like you're pointing a stick at someone). This will let you have smoother movements with your whole arm, vs. just your hand, to get the fluidity and form of the figure right. Good luck!
