Hmm you know, that is a very interesting thought. Maybe before Discord was encased in stone, he stole parts from other creatures and this isn't his original form.

Yeah, I have a theory.
Pinkamina used the parts of each creature she diced up and built Discord in her image. This would explain the similarity in their natures, along with the lack of romantic inclination. As for the "age difference", Pinkamina is immortal, and was alive before Discord.
