Description
“So…huh…guess this is in, huh, Zoe?” Jay looked down to see her new friend, Cyndaquil nodding solemnly at her. The young girl had never been on her own before, but the past three days had taught the fresh trainer quite a bit about the world. “Look sharp, Zoe. This place is kind of…eerie,” Jay said, as she began to notice the trees growing thicker and thicker, eventually blocking out almost all of the sunlight, as she and Zoe made their way through llex Forest. Her short time on her own had helped Jay get over some of her older fears, but walking through a forest like this, she began to feel a cold chill down her spine, and secretly hoped she would make it to Azelea Town before night.Suddenly, Jay froze! An oddly familiar sound—like buzzing, cut through the silence. “What is that noise,” she thought to herself, unable to fathom, through the growing dread in her stomach.
“Cyn!” Zoeys’ shrill bark brought Jay back to her senses, and helped calm her.
“Right…uh…Zoey, use Leer! See if you can find anything out there,” Jay asked, hoping Leer would be able to help her fight her fear. Zoey looked around with a piercing gaze, slowly shifting her head until she spotted what appeared to be the cause of the noise and took off after it, with a growl.
“Zoey!” Jays’ heart pounded as she raced after the agile Pokemon, who seemed to be almost possessed with her speed at tracking whatever it found. “Zoey, wait! What is it!?” Jay had to avoid several trees, but was rewarded with a sunny a clearing as well as the identity of the noisy creature that had disturbed her.
Across from Zoey, with a plastic, toothy grin on its face, a Rotom in the form of a Lawnmower levitated. “Ro…”
Jay ran to her Pokemons’ side, and her fear was now replaced with adrenaline at the thought of getting her first catch. “Zoey…you ready for this?” Zoey let out a bark, and tensed for the battle that was to come.
“Ro…” Rotoms’ body began to glow and green electricity sparked around it. “Tom!” The electricity streamed from Rotoms’ body and struck Zoey, pushing her back past Jay.
“Zoey!” Though she looked hurt, Zoey remained standing and raced back to the clearing to continue battling. “That’a girl, Zoe! Zoey, use Smoke Screen!”
Zoey let loose a thick cloud of smoke that assured Jay Rotom was virtually blind. “Now, use Leer, Zoey!” Again, the fire-type Pokemon eyes opened up, as it peered through the smoke, alerting Jay she’d found Rotom with a cry. “Quil! Quil!”
The sound, however, drew the attention of Rotom, and with new information on the location of its opponent, it attacked with a powerful Thundershock. “Ro…Tom!”
Momentarily stunned from the unexpected attack, Zoey was ill-prepared to dodge Rotom’s next move, despite Jays’ insistence. “Zoey, quick! Get over here!” It was too late, though. “Rotom…” A flash of odd “thick” light struck Zoey and she found herself the victim of Rotoms’ Confuse Ray.
“Cyn…” The smoke screen began to fade, but Cyndaquils’ confusion was evident to Jay. “Oh man…”
“Rotom!” Before she could decide how to address the situation with her Cyndaquil, Rotom was back on the offensive and attacked with Discharge, sending another wave of green electricity at Cyndaquil. “Cyn!”
“Zoey!” Jay was beginning to consider calling Zoey back and fleeing, but feared being caught by the intangible Rotom. Her thoughts of flight were disrupted though, as Cyndaquil struggled back to her feet and the flame on her back began to glow brighter than ever! “Zoey…”
That’s when Jay realized what was happening, and a smile beamed across her face. “Right, Blaze!”
Zoey let out a powerful cry as she prepared for a final stand against Rotom. “Zoey, use Ember on Rotom!” Drawing from her newly received power boost, Zoey breathed deeply and let out a powerful barrage of small flames from her mouth, hitting Rotom dead center, and sending the Ghost Pokemon crashing into a tree.
Cyndaquil though, was tired, and her fatigue was evident once she stopped her assault, and Jay knew she had to end this quickly. “Thanks, Zoey,” she said, reaching for a Pokeball from her belt. “Here…goes…nothing!” She pressed the button, and let the ball fly, hitting her target, and in a flash of white, Rotom was zapped into the red and white ball. Jay and Zoey waited for what seemed like hours before finally, the ball stopped shaking and Rotom was officially hers.
It took a few minutes for the reality to set it, but once it had, Jay was ecstatic and raced over to the ball. “Alright, Rotom! Looks like you’ll be hanging with us,” she said, as she held the ball in her hands with a huge smile on her face. “And you did a wonderful job, Zoey,” Jay said, kneeling down to pat the young pokemon on her head.
As Jay jumped about celebrating, she only barely recognized a faint, but familiar noise from across the clearing. She turned around to inspect the noise and to her shock, the most beautiful creature she’d ever seen was staring back at her. A ponyta, with a flaming, blue mane. Slowly she attempted to approach the magnificent creature, but before she could get close enough to touch it, the Ponyta leaped over her and took off through the forest.
Not content to simply let this pokemon slip through her fingers, Jay scooped up Zoey and took off after the Fire Horse Pokemon as best she could, but unfortunately, she soon lost the creature as she exited the forest with no sign of the Ponyta.
The young trainer, sat on the grass as she took in all of the events of the day, and even though she was somewhat upset about not getting that Ponyta, she still had a smile on her face as she hugged Zoey close and thought about her first capture and how helpful Rotom would be for her future as a trainer. In the back of her mind though, she made it her mission to find that blue Ponyta.
Eventually, she made it to the Pokemon Center, where she planned to rest up for the night, before really deciding what she wanted to do as a Trainer.
“Hello there,” Nurse Joy beamed, as Jay walked through the door. “Hey, Nurse. Hm?” Jay was surprised to see a young man in a suit, smiling at her. “Hey there, young lady.”
“Uh…hey,” Jay said, walking to the counter, as the young man continued speaking with Nurse Joy. “So anyway, I was wondering if you knew of anyone that was willing to help? Looking a job.”
“No, not that I can think of, Ty. Sorry, I can’t be of more help,” Nurse Joy answered, but Ty waved her off. “It’s fine. I suppose I’ll rest up here for the night then, if you have the room.”
“Of course! Just take a cot anywhere in the back. Surprisingly, you’re the only one here tonight, so it looks like it’s all yours.” Nurse Joy waved to Ty as he made his way to the back, and Jay stepped forward, handing the Pokeballs containing Zoey and Rotom to Nurse Joy.
“Um, excuse me, Nurse? Who was that guy, if you don’t mind me asking,” Jay asked.
“Oh that was Ty. He works as a sort of problem solver. He really just goes around helping people. He’s had a few partners, but I think he’s looking for a new one. Are you interested in maybe joining him?” Nurse Joy asked.
“I’m not really sure yet. I’m not really sure what I want to do as a trainer. I’ve only been on my own for a few days. I just caught my second Pokemon today,” Jay said, partially talking to herself.
“Well…I think you should consider it. I hear he pays well, and people tend to help him out a lot with the company he works for. I’m sure he would enjoy the company too. I think you’d make a fine partner for him.” Nurse Joy turned, as a chiming sound went off behind her. “Oh, it looks like your Pokemon are all ready to go. Will you be staying for the night?”
“Yes, I’ll be staying,” Jay said, as she took her Pokemon back.
“Then maybe you could speak to him tomorrow morning, after you’ve both had some rest. You look pretty tired,” Nurse Joy said.
Jay smiled and nodded, and made her way to the back, to grab a bed for the night. Tomorrow she would address her current situation, but now it was time to sleep.
