Description It's the psychosis,
my psychosis
that makes me say these
strange and wonderful
things to you, in the dark
or upon bridges,
to keep you from falling.

    The rocks just don't
   appear to be safe,
says he, can't you see him?
The little man on my shoulder?

But, it's the psychosis
that keeps afflicting me.
I'll use that as my crutch,
as my savior.
Trouble flees, and trouble
swarms in the same instance.
But, I'm rambling again.

The psychosis keeps the
words coming,
and you don't hurt yourself
as much... the cuts aren't so
severe.

Hadn't a scar in two weeks.

I love you, love you...
I'm sorry, that’s the
psychosis talking,
can't remember if it always was,
but that’s the psychosis talking.
Can't understand if it'll go away.

   Don't think so,
      said he.
   Don't think it'll go
    anywhere.
   (the little man on my
     shoulder said)

Agree.

I've seen your addictions,
your inhibitions,
your drunken missions
that leave you bleeding -
  hate the color of blood.
But they stop when it arrives,
my psychosis. I believe that you
believe, and I'll pretend to believe
that our belief will stand in the background,
twiddling it's thumbs,
cautionary cautions,
standing watch, as long as I keep
my psychosis around.

   The little man
   on my shoulder blade
   agrees.

We should collaborate on poetry. Interested? This is cool. It's hard to turn a condition into art without demeaning or mocking it. I think you handled this quite well also the ending is what shows how lost from reality a person is when they give way to psychosis. My guess is the little man is a demonic spirit pretending to be a good angel speaking to the person who went into psychosis?

The thought of psychosis and such mental diseases is frightening. I hope I'll never get insane or get severe depression.
I smoke a lot of weed and this statistically increases the chances of becoming psychotic/mentally ill but I guess I just pray and
hope that nothing bad happens.

yes, yes, friend. that thought scares me, too. i keep thinking would i even KNOW i have it? and if i'm self-aware that i do have it, does that really mean that i DON'T have it? a paradox!

thanks for reading!

sometimes, the psychosis is beneficial, like for me. But they're still going to treat me for it. When ever I draw my imaginary champion, it's not what they would think. When ever I draw him, I draw him coddling me, or someone else in need, comforting them, trying to make things better.

Exactly. In this piece, the psychosis was what helped the main character get through the notion of being in love with the other character who would hurt themselves when feeling alone (implied) as this portion of the second to final stanza says:

seen your addictions,
your inhibitions,
your drunken missions
that leave you bleeding -
hate the color of blood.
But they stop when it arrives,
my psychosis.

But, yeah, of course, people are going to try to treat it, since it's not deemed "normal" in the medical field.

Thanks for the comment!

I have heard of some who would notbe treated for they thought they lost their edge, their passion. The drugs made them feel numb. I was given Paxil once for a severe postpartum depression and I do not really remember the next 11months of my life ... at least not in detail. But I did some huge and spectacular abstracts during that time. So ... who knows?

Oh yes, yes. Tis mere fiction in the grandest sense. I would venture to say that it was something deep and metaphorical in meaning, but it was just a fictional account of someone who'd just actually could force him (her, your choice ) to say these things to his "lover" just so they wouldn't hurt themselves because THEY loved them so much. Weird, twisted tale that would do better as a story, methinks.

And I would absolutely love to see some of those abstracts.

I'll wiki your inspiration, but the human psyche is such that we all have a little being on our shoulder or some other body part. The duality and distancing in the poem speaks to the fleeting nature of human identity. A little voice told me to write this. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

^^ Hope I didn't disappoint you when you looked her up. It was more of a connecting reaction, plus past experiences with Beat poets.

And O Superman was the strangest thing I've seen in a while, but after the five minute mark, made sense and worked. Thank goodness my hard rock side didn't take over and click the back button. I wouldn't have been able to write this.

Thanks for the fav!!!
