JUDGES PLEASE READ!! As I attempt to explain my use of surf (I know I’m being a bold/taking a risk but hear me out)
First, I don’t feel like surf is that destructive of a move. I usually base my understanding of moves on the anime, and I don’t recall surf going out of control, crashing out of the battle area, and washing away the spectators in the bleachers or anything. And while Charlie (the sealeo) is the most inexperienced member of Baron’s team, he is a good battler and has full control of all his moves (including surf) so I feel like most of the attack would stay concentrated in the battle area, leaving the lawn perhaps a little waterlogged, but I wouldn’t be knocking down buildings or even flooding basements (I see the battle area being only one of those quads around the clock tower, making the tower fully behind the battle area and out of harm’s way)
Second, the Baron is ridiculously, stupidly, rich and always has been (family $ don’t you know). And he’s rather used to being able to use that in order to do whatever he darn well pleases. So, in the event that the use of Surf did somehow damage property, Baron is fully willing and able to pay to replace it (heck maybe even get the owner a better, upgraded version of whatever it would be)
Finally, in response to people being concerned that the spectators may get an unwanted dousing, Baron has sent out the other five members of his team prior to the match to hand out free rain ponchos, just in case, so that the spectators may watch and stay dry in plastic lined comfort. In the last panel you can actually see Jeeves the Swalot having finished his rounds by the café, and is now amiably holding an umbrella over the closest spectator
So, I’m not disregarding the rules, but attempting to respond to them creatively in a way that is in keeping with my OC’s personality and background…. Please don’t disqualify me *wobble eyes*
(plus if I had just completely done something different, the world would’ve been deprived the image of a mighty dragon carrying a happy fat sea mammal through the sky, and would you really have wanted that on your conscience? *shot*)

Pokemon Pairing Theme:
complimentary opposites (Fire and Water/Ice, red and blue etc) as an extra showing of camaraderie both pokemon (albeit a little reluctantly in Quasar the Charizard’s case ^^) have agreed to wear some matching “stach-bling” left over from the new year’s event

My partner this round is Konoe, a ultra-cool (gorgeous) stoic type, with an equally cool charizard. Konoe is actually a bit shy and doesn’t say much, and during battles he’s downright mute (giving signals through body language, like I said, this guy = super cool) that doesn’t bother the Baron none though, as he’d much rather have a serious, capable battler as a partner than a talented conversationalist any day.

The Strategy:
Baron is using Charlie the happy go lucky Sealeo, while Konoe is sending in Quasar the Charizard. Their contrary types help cover each other’s weaknesses, but some thought needs to be put into the order and nature of attacks so as not to cancel each other out, or run the risk of suffering from friendly fire. (needless to say Charlie won’t be using blizzard) In the image we see here, Charlie has opened with Surf, while Quasar is using fly. The move fly keeps Quasar safe from the water wall, but here he has also plucked Charlie from atop the wave at just the right moment. This prevents Surf from carrying Charlie all the way to the opposite end of the field, so that Quasar and Charlie can remain a united force (important in double battles). Quasar is also readying a Fire Blast, which he will wait to send out until after Surf has cleared so that the flames won’t be put out by the water. The Baron does not own any flying or fire type pokemon so this is the first time Charlie has had the chance to work with one. As you can probably tell, he’s rather impressed ^^

Breif note, I read in the artist comments that Michelle’s Granbull Courage is cowardly, and Darryl’s Persian is lazy, which is why they both look so “thrilled” at being about to start a battle ^^’
