if not for the music.

your laughter, your voice, it owes itself
to the music.

it is a pool of candlelight, this tune—
a singular sphere
of awareness—today it shines
on you, today you smile.

and listen—this next song
is the eye of the lighthouse
which guided you here
and now holds you in its gaze
and in mine.

you need this as much
as i do. but if you really want
to talk, then sure, i’ll remove
an earbud. but just one.

after all, isn’t this
how we all survive a day,
by remaining at least partially
drenched in night? there is nothing
more comfortable
or more human
than becoming the beating heart
of such a personal universe.
