Description
you don’t get thereby being someone else’s doorstop
and just sitting there, all sharp angles
and corners
you don’t get there
by carving yourself into a porcelain teacup
using thin air as your chisel
only to shatter as soon as you hit solid ground
you don’t get there
by standing up, dusting off your jeans,
and calling something clever over your shoulder
as you leave
you get there
by sculpting yourself into a sphere,
rough, but round enough
to roll
you get there
by catching the Moon’s smile
on the tips of your fingers
and standing on tiptoe to kiss it goodnight
you get there
by sticking a feather in your cap
and calling it love, then weighing it
against Lady Liberty’s Crown
and calling it even

Interesting. Not entirely sure what it means, but I think it's about embracing yourself and realizing that you're a whole person. The character, "you," is someone who tries to put up an abrasive and cavalier front to hide their insecurities. But in order to become a more fulfilled person--in order to "get there," the character needs to be willing to chip off their sharp facade and be honest about their faults. They need to examine themself and realize that even though they are "rough," they are "round enough to roll." They need to stop pushing people away and start letting people in--start letting love in, both from themself and other people. Because loving yourself is a liberating act.

indeed i definitely was thinking about how to become your own person, not just something in relation to someone else, and about getting past imperfections. and, yes, about love.
glad you liked it.
