Description HERE IT IIIIIIS, the tutorial I had been working on since January.... Although it's been on a long hiatus until last month. I can't believe it is now done Special thanks to my beta readers who offered seriously helpful and constructive reviews on this. If not for you guys I doubt I would have regained the motivation to finish this c':

Eventhough it was lots of fun, this is as far as I'll go with dragon tutorials. One reason why I'm terrible at tutorials apart from confidence issues, is there is usually a ton I want to talk about and it becomes a huge mess hahah. I also have trouble explaining and especially in English. Hope all the text doesn't scare you off xD Let me know if you spot any grammar error.

In any case this allowed me to fully nerd out and express my unhealthy love for design features and unique character traits I could go on and on for hours. Starting off with the faces!

Also, sorry if the part about "drawing in your own style" feels a bit long, but I wanted to say this since I have been messaged by people several times, that they have been told to change their style and draw dragons like I do because someone told them "it's how you draw dragons, don't use your current style", and I find this really silly. It has happened enough times that I felt it needed to be mentioned. People have no right to dictate how you should draw something and state which style is "right".  It's also not a good idea to say this if the artist doesn't want their style being copied, but that's another topic.

Anyways, hope you'll enjoy! If you ever use this tutorial to design some charas, I'd totally love to see what you do with it c: And like I said part 2 will be here in a few days ~

Very lovely tutorial, I know a few friends who would definitely find this super helpful ^^.

I just find it hilarious that my dragon kind of cheats at your tip regarding cheek/jaw horns. His dragon species has large spikes lining the whole cheek area, but I planned their skull in a way it doesn't affect their jaw movement XD.

really awesome tips here! Thanks! Cool idea about referencing cartoon characters, and emphasizing the shape of the lines.

I already knew about this fact that villain characters often feature pointy lines, but it feels nice to be confirmed.
There are a lot of analytical facts apart from this on here. Did you learn all that by yourself or did you have some sort of education?

This is a wonderful reference! I remember your old "How to Draw" tutorial from your old account, that's what initially got me into digital art. This is great! Keep it up!

The face features part completely destroys that "cal-arts face" nonsense :I

This is really helpful, I never considered some of this stuff with my original dragons so I'll definatley be using this as a guide in the future!

A thing I like to do when making shapes and miscellaneous characters is just make a random scribble and find shapes from that

Really helpful! When I creating a new character, first thing what I made is always heads, sketching on paper with pencil. Then I made portrait on computer with changes. I don't know why, but if I like it then I made a body too. LOL strange tactic, isn't it?

PS.: I really have wonderment about your characters. Can I made a picture of my dragoness Mistrial and one of your characters? Just in friendly meaning... of course.

I actually screamed when I saw this - people came running into my dorm room to see what was wrong xD
This is an INCREDIBLE tutorial!!! An extremely original one, too, if I do say so myself! I simply cannot wait to see the other parts!
I know that this will help so many aspiring dragon artists out there, as well as myself - I can't thank you enough for posting this!
Also, the sheer amount of styles you illustrated there is phenomenal! Each one looks like they were drawn by a completely different person - that takes so much talent!
I thought my respect for you couldn't go any higher. I WAS WRONG

Thanks so much once again!!!!

OH!! This is a nice surprise!

To be honest, I wasn't sure you'd be comfortable making a dragon design tutorial... since some people can get a bit pushy when it comes to asking for drawing tips. BUT! I'm soo glad you did!
You definitely sound like you had fun making this, and the more I read it, the more I want to pull out my own sketch book and try to draw!!

I've been stuck in a bit of an art block right now and after reading this all I want to do is draw now.. what have you done to me? Hahahaha!

Anyway, its always so cool to see what kind of dragon designs you come up with and I hope you'll be comfortable enough to keep going with this tutorial- it has helped me so much already and I can't thank you enough for making it!

Oh, and can I just say that the big dragon with their eyes closed at the end of the tutorial is amazing?
I really like the little spikey whiskers around their nostrils.. sUCH A COOL IDEA~
