Description
Here's an image showing what my six main OCs fear the most . I'm going to be giving out details of how they got these fears. And (if you're interested) I'm also going to be talking about why I decided to give them these fears in the first place. It's going to be long, so I hope you're ready for this. Alright, let's begin!Pyrophobia - Fear of Fire : As you may or may not already know, Loa has a huge fear of fire. He's had it ever since he was five and the way it spawned is pretty traumatic. Loa was once a proud member of a fierce tribe of lions called the "Moyo wa Ujasiri Tribe". It was most well-known for its' fearless warriors, who defended the village from cannibals. The chief of that tribe (named "Mnyama") was Loa's father, and his mother (named "Uzuri") spent the most time with him. One night a wildfire swept through the village and wiped out nearly everyone. Loa survived, but not without getting the palm of his right hand slightly burned (which is how he got the scar) and seeing his own mother die right in front of him. From there, a tribe of monkey's called the "Miti Mirefu Tribe" adopted him.
Why I gave him this fear: This stems back to when I made him in LittleBigPlanet and it pretty much started out as a mistake. Out of my six main OCs, Loa is the only one who started in LBP1. (I'm going to mention a few things that only people who have played the LittleBigPlanet games would understand. If you haven't played them, then just bear with me.) When I brought him over to LBP2, I decided to make some changes to the original costume. I made him more vibrant and a little more tribal by adding his warrior markings (the red face paint). At one point, I was trying to color his tongue and for whatever reason a piece of the sticker I placed somehow ended up on his right hand. I tried many ways to fix it, but it just wouldn't cooperate. Eventually, I decided to just roll with it and call it a scar. I then got the idea to create a backstory for it, which pretty much turned into Loa's backstory (which you read in the paragraph above). Considering this backstory and how life-changing it was for him, it would only made sense to have him afraid of fire.
Hydrophobia - Fear of Water : You may or may not know this too, but Demon is incredibly afraid of water. This fear actually spawned after he died. If you don't already know; In Demon's world, you fear whatever caused your death, so in Demon's case, he drowned . However, he's afraid of it a little more than he should, because all demons (in his world) are afraid of water by default. That means he's not only afraid of rain and large bodies of water, but also tap water, squirt gun water, puddles... You name it.
Why I gave him this fear: It was a pretty lazy, yet logical decision. He has fire based powers and water is essentially the opposite of fire, so why not have him afraid of water? I made this decision very early in his development, like "not too long after I made him" early.
Achluophobia - Fear of Darkness (or the Dark) : It's a very common and understandable fear, especially for a 7-year-old. Although, being a rabbit, you'd think Ryan wouldn't be bothered by it, since rabbits can see in the dark. Well, probably wouldn't be bothered by it, except he CAN'T see in the dark. It's one of two defects he was born with (the other being a fur disorder, which he has missing patches of fur). Because of this disability, he has developed a paranoid and nearly motionless behavior whenever he's in the dark. Always afraid of what could be lurking near him.
Why I gave him this fear: I was afraid of the dark when I was a lot younger, and since Ryan is the represents my youth, I figured it would only make sense. Although, at the time I made that decision, I didn't know rabbits could see in the dark, and by the time I found out, it was far too late to give him that ability. However, it wasn't too late to give other rabbits in his world that ability. Of course, I had to come up with a reason as to why Ryan couldn't see in the dark, and the best thing I could think of was a birth defect.
Phasmophobia - Fear of Ghosts : Being able to manipulate air, you'd think Oscar would be used to the unnatural. Well, he is, but ghosts are the exception. Ever since he was six, he's had many paranormal experiences in his own home. I don't know if I've said this before, but his family is rich. Rich enough that they live in a mansion, and that mansion is at least a couple centuries old. He's experienced strange, shadowy figures roaming through the halls, noises and voices coming from seemingly nowhere, objects moving on their own (without his influence), and even... a phantom fox?
Why I gave him this fear: I actually used to be (and still am) interested in the paranormal, so it was a little more than just a lazy decision. If I remember correctly, I made this decision at some point after I joined DeviantArt. In fact, I actually didn't come up with a backstory for it until just now. (Oh, by the way, I hope you like the cameo of 's character Fane. I thought it would be a nice touch. I hope it doesn't bother anyone that I decided to make him my style of a ghost.)
Homichlophobia - Fear of Fog: DJ isn't normally known to lose his cool, but when he does, it can go in one of two ways. It's usually a burst of anger, but, in this case, it's loss of direction. Now, it's not exactly the fog that DJ is afraid of, it's the feeling of being lost. Fog is just the only thing that can make him feel that way. It's safe to assume that he doesn't use fog machines in his performances. Unfortunately, I haven't come up with a backstory for his fear.
Why I gave him this fear: We all know about art blocks , right? Now, I'm not the kind of artist that gets those a lot of the time. Instead of not knowing what to draw, I just don't know how to go about doing it. So instead of something blocking my path, it's something surrounding me and obscuring my field of view (like a fog). I'm faced with so many different ways I could do something that it's hard for me to know which one I think would work the best. There can be so many different possibilities for just a simple pose. Since DJ represents my creativity, I felt like having him afraid of fog would be a nice way to represent the "art fog" that I often get.
Basophobia - Fear of Falling : Glowboy isn't the most graceful of his kind, he can actually be a bit clumsy . Every now and then he trips over something or loses his balance. As soon as he impacts the ground, his glow rings (those cyan bracelets and anklets) could fall off. For those of you who don't know, his glow rings are what enable him to glow as long as he's wearing all four of them. He would be devastated if he lost even one of them. Now, since his glow rings can be easily knocked off and the fact that he's a bit clumsy, that means he takes every step with a bit of caution.
Why I gave him this fear: I had already made him clumsy and afraid of losing his glow rings. I had also already made his glow rings easily removable from an impact. Since his clumsiness would normally be the cause of him losing his glow rings, it would only make sense that falling would be the perfect fear. (By the way, yes, I know the image I made for Glowboy is a bit overkill, but I wanted it to be more interesting than him tripping over a rock or something.)
Well, there you have it! Hope you all like it!
