Description
Yet another in-class assignment from that inking class you all have heard so much about lately. I've got addicted to inking stuff, it's so much fun! Although this assignment has been the most challenging yet. The original drawing was done by Klaus Jansen in memory of Will Eisner's passing during one his visits to our school (for those who don't know, he inked The Dark Knight returns by Frank Miller), and it was MESSY! As a blue line drawing it was barely decipherable what the elements looked like and there was pretty much no detail. It was obviously drawn just for him, but it was an excercise for the scenario "What if it wasn't his to ink?"I did the best I could and ended up with one of the tighter drawings that actually resembled The Spirit. Although there was still a lot I missed in the drawing that I could have taken advantage of. It might have just been the jet lag my professor had from a trip he went on this weekend, but he was displeased with everyone's pages again. When he showed us the real page inked, all of our pages were like a 180 from how the original artist interpreted it. Not that it's a bad thing, but all of our solutions were sloppy pretty much.

This looks great, very dramatic and suspenseful! Where do you go to school, that you get to take inking classes? Sounds pretty awesome. I'm self-taught and nobody I know does comics, so I think it would be really helpful to do comics in a class, get some useful feedback and all that.

I go to Savannah College of Art and Design. I'm in my last year sadly, I really love the place.

Very awesome work man. Yeah, I started to dislike using blue color pencils for my sketches a while back. For some reason the ink doesn't want to go over it with me. Then again, I've only used micron pens.
Anyways, keep up the good work!
(I though colleges were all out...)

Well what I bet your problem is that the blue line pencils you're using are wax based like the ones I use (Prismacolor Col-Erase Non-Photo blue). The regular col-erase blue are darker and graphite based so they're easier to ink over, but aren't non-photo. If you really want to try something different, they're more expensive, but Tria makes non-photo blue markers which I used to use a lot, and ink goes perfectly over, but ultimately decided I liked my crappy waxy pencils the best.

Na I think I'll stick to a regular graphite pencil. I wasted too much on blue colored pencils in the past, so I just pencil and kinda ink them with photoshop. Anyways, nice work on your pic man.

It does not look too shabby to me. It would be interesting to see what it 'should' have looked like.
Take care and good luck.

Yah, I like it too for the most part, I just wish I had a clear idea of what the drawing was supposed to be. Thanks, glad you liked it ^^
