So I drew this on the most random whim back in August just two days before my birthday! I have no idea why; I think I was talking with a friend about the OC who goes to this hand!

Anyways, this OC - Vincent Dofleini Leacroft - is not old or new, has never been drawn, and his concept was a sort of open-and-close process since he was a kind of spontaneous OC, but I've been thinking about him recently and wondering if I should give him some more exposure. Being part Octopus, Vincent's right hand (it's shown as left in the image, but it's actually his right hand) only has three fingers, the would-be index and middle finger merging to form a short and dexterous tentacle. His left hand (non-dominant, he is right-handed) does not have a tentacle, and has all five fingers. He has webbing on both hands between his fingers, and in his tentacled hand between the tentacle and thumb, he has a retractable barb coated in venom. He extends this barb by making a fist with the fingers OVER the thumb - this is not recommended when throwing punch, as you could break your thumb or jab your nails into the heel of your palm.

I actually had some indecision on which way the barb should point. Towards the tentacle and risk poking himself there, or towards the thumb and risk jabbing his own thumb? Since the thumb is so mobile and can be pushed out of the way by making the mentioned fist, the barb curves in and points out towards the thumb.

Vincent's skin is pale and chalky, but his tentacle is black and red (inspired by the Giant Pacific Octopus) and gradually transitions from his pale skin, to the mentioned colors starting just at the top-center of the back of his hand (just under where the darkest 'spot' on his hand is). His nails are sharp and naturally black, curved at the tips, reminiscent of an Octopus (or squid's) beak.

Materials: Strathmore grey toned paper (it looks tan, I know, but I messed with the hue and saturation settings in SAI to make it look more tan and have the drawing stand out more. I kind of wish I drew it on tan paper lol), mechanical pencil. The faint water stains were added in digitally, as well as my traditional media watermark - the double S's forming a salmon with my birth Ogham letter in the middle.

Fun facts about the picture and OC~

- Vincent's last name is a geographical variation of 'Lovecraft'. Since his overall character was inspired by Lovecraftian weird horror, I had to give him Sir Lovecraft's name!

- My birth Ogham is the hazel tree, and it's symbolic letter is called 'Coll', which resembles the Ogham alphabet letter 'C' (or K and CK)

- Alongside my Ogham birth letter and tree symbol, my trad watermark also has a salmon formed from two S's. The salmon is, fro lack of better term, my 'Celtic zodiac' animal, and guardian of wells and the hazel trees.

- Vincent stemmed from an original remake of fanmade OCs I created long ago in my first years of DA on another account. He is married and head over heels for his tiny delicate waifu.

- Vincent is a novelist and writer, but also owns a prestigious club and bar in my OC-centric city of Sin City.

- Vincent does not have hair, but rather a long, sultry mane of octopus tentacles that can be used like extra hands. They are flexible and dexterous,a nd can even stretch an extra few feet. They are VERY strong - like most octopus - and can easily strangle someone, or snap bone. He supposedly has done as much before he settled down.

- Sumi kind of cheated making this hand. I will openly admit I did that silly hand tracing thing you may have done in elementary school to make those stupid thanksgiving turkey drawings as a base. This is also why it shows Vincent's tentacle-hand as his left hand instead of his right - I'm right-handed and by the time I was halfway finished, I didn't want to redo it LOL In my defence though, I made a TON of alterations to the traced base as I went, and even had to adjust the hand size and shape to conform to the tentacle.
