Cosmic Flash is the only child of Twilight and Flash sentry, after he was born Twilight had fallen ill out of fear the couple agreed on no more kids for a while, but soon the two were never able to have alone time, Cosmic always wanted to be the center of attention as a foal. Soon work caused both parents to never have time to try for another child, hence why he doesn't have any brothers or sisters, then again he has a large family as it is.
Twilight took him Griffonstone as she thought he'd love to see the new and improved griffon place. While Twilight was shopping cooing over the life style of the griffons Cosmic Flash wandered off and got attacked by a small group of young griffons, giving him the two scars he has now. The words of the three Griffons burned into his head 'he'll never be as great as his mother, just a failure in her shadow!' deep down he knew it was true, but wanted to prove them all wrong anyway, so it was the start of his late night studies and slowly the start of him closing off the world around him.
