Description
Well, I havent been silent for a while for nothingI was contacted by ~ViviPhalloids about a while ago, and I took on a commission work of a book cover made by some people, the book should be realsed sometime this summer in Lebanon. Technically speaking, this is my first published work
The book's title is Escape, and though its a small book for now (the writer told me she will work on it more), it really captivated it, even though I wasnt expecting much. So i took my time with the cover, working on everything that I felt needs to be there.
Oh, the book is a love story of two vampires. I wont say more.

Time: 11+ hours
This picture is 90% drawns and painted in photoshop. Most of the charachter's clothes, hair and accessories were painted, you can see the original in here [link] Everything else, (sky, castle, forest...) in drawn, and I am quite proud by it.
The author(s) still havent seen this, so i am hoping they will like it... and it means I can still change a few things, so go ahead and talk about it ...

This is really beautiful! You MUST take a photo of the book when it comes out, with your pic on the front, so we can all see your work in print

I like this. Looking back at the stock image, the work on the hair (mostly for the guy and not the girl) and clothing look so real that it's insane. However, I think this has what I like to call a 'stage' appearance. The people look so real, but the background looks like a fantasy. Not a bad mix of things, but I just don't think that they were blended very well in this case. For something that was done almost completely from scratch, it's definately not bad. With a little more work, it'll be the epitome of 'kickass'.

but with her and his hair, I tried to make them look "unreal" as the background is. What do you propose i should do more to get it more like what you said? cause i want, i just dont know how.

Well, it all kind of has a fairy-tale look. I would suggest making the characters you used from the stock have more of an 'airbrush' look, if you know what I mean. I don't know, that's the first thing that comes to mind.

They'd better pick it. This would draw any eye to the book. Good work, professional
300 dpi or more with 3mm bleed in CMYK with minimal K, right? otherwise it'll be too dark and flat when printed =/
Personally I wouldn't place jobs in my dA gallery, what with unclear copyright issues and all that. If you put it in your journal you can go around that.
I just took a look at the original. You did a great job turning it around! The castle is awesome, so is her hair. Speaking of hair, you should thicken his more (the hair flying around his face is too thin) and sharpen hers (too blurry and fuzzy, make some strokes with a sharper brush)
One last nitpick, the smoke is horizontally mirrored and it's too obvious, I'd suggest a less symmetrical look to it to look more like smoke.
You're going from really good to really great. Keep going man, we need more book covers like this in Lebanon!

thanks for the detailed comment
yes, his hair still needs to be thicker, i've noticed that, and actually did it, but just didnt upload it yet. so, thanks for the pointing that out.
For the smoke, I was hoping to go with the horizontal symetrical, because, if you notice, it gives a shape of a monster, or something sinister, so its made on purpse (notice two eyes, nose and mouth). so, its done on purpose, because the charachter can alter his environnement, so i just had this idea of the sinister face showing in the smoke, but not to detailed or showing that it would take from the overall focus
yes, def 300dpi and CMYK, its the first thing i thought about
thanks again man!!

I noticed the face (which is pretty cool by the way ), I'm talking about the symmetry. But yeah, it works
Seriously, I wanna see this on the book's cover.

Looks pretty awesome to me, the grey hair seems to need a bit more work though, seems a bit hmmm flat? Same with the redhead, although hers looks alot better than his imo.
