I'm not sure why, and I'm sorry I don't have something more constructive to say, but this really reminds me of a girl I knew in highschool all those moons ago - who told me she was in love with love itself, or at least the idea of love. I mean, shit always sounds more poignant when you're a teenager, right? But its only just struck me now that in the given context, how incredibly honest a thing it was to say, we weren't even that close. Maybe she liked me, maybe she just liked the idea of liking me - she was a cancerian so I guess we'll never know. But its something that stuck with me, although I never made a habit of learning from it, and later when I heard The Cure's "How Beautiful You Are" it really began to bother me. In the words of Molly Ringwald at the end of Not Another Teen Movie "Fucking Teenagers!" Wasn't until a few years later when my tastes gently filtered back through time I heard Paul Simon's "Hearts and Bones" that I finally got over it. He wrote that song about his then-wife Carrie Fisher, and I wouldn't be surprised if the entire argument about Mexico in the song was an actual argument they had and those were her words of wisdom in that song, but I was actually in Mexico over Christmas when she passed. That's enough waffle for now, this comment went everywhere - it even went to Mexico. Oh yeah, nice poem.
