Description
"A Red Coat Run!" someone shouted as a group of patriots dashed madly out of the street startled by a short young man in a red cloak.

Ed sat up and rubbed his backside where he had landed with a hard thump.
"What happened to me and where am I?!" the last thing Ed remembered he had been fighting Envy the homunculus  inside the remains of the laboratory, when he pushed Ed into some bright light.

"March on men show no mercy to law breakers out after curfew!" a commanding voice barked to a troop of British regulars ahead.

"what tha'?" Ed wondered looking up with confusion as he got to his feet.

The Red coats had stopped now to harass a group of Bostonians, one man apparently in charge was yammering something along the lines of, traitors, king George and prisoner.

"Hey!" Ed started to shout and walk up to the British officer.

"Get back," the wary voice of James Hiller urgently hissed grabbing Ed by the arm and yanked him into the alleyway, "are you crazy do you want the British to catch you breaking there curfew?!"

"uh.. no?" Edward hesitated as he looked up into the face of a boy around his age in a green vest, puffy sleeved shirt and brown knickers.

"Good so keep your voice down unless you just don't want to live to see the American revolution!"

"American Revolution!?" Ed burst out in shock.

"Shhhh, will you hold your noise!" James shushed the boy and clamped his hand over Edo's mouth ," those British Red Coats won't hesitate to use force against us."

This didn't set well with the state alchemist and he agitatedly pushed the hand aside, frowning at the golden haired youth, "So they are military personal huh?"

James slate blue eyes grew wide in disbelief "What? your a British soldier!!??" his fists balled up, "I should have known by the way you dress that you were no patriot!"

"Patriot?" Ed questioned with frustration feeling his temper rise at the last comment about his clothing, "I'm not one of those men!"

"Well then what are you? Tory? loyalist?" James voice sounded skeptical as he folded his arms.

Ed didn't like these accusations, "Neither, my Names Edward Elric and I'm a Military State Alchemist in Amestris!!" and with that he angrily flashed his silver pocket watch.

"I'm James Hiller Ben Franklins Apprentice and you are a dirty Red coat!" James snorted pointing his finger at the stranger.

"Shut up! my coats not dirty!!" Ed shouted, " Colonel Roy made me wash it a hundred times before leaving the barracks today!!"

James gave a smug grin," sure," he nodded suspiciously eyeing the strange red cloak, "Well if your not a Red Coat then your a spy!"

"How could I  Be a spy I just got here!!!" Ed boiled jumping up and down.

"I say your both spies and rebels against his majesty king George!" the towering British officer sharply interjected approaching the boys.

"Who is this stupid king, and why does everyone think I'm a spy!!!" fullmetal shouted in the officers face.

"Watch your tongue lad!" The Red coat spit, "we will have none of that unless you just want to be charged with slander and reap the full penalty of the law!" these words came out like rumbling thunder and made the two boys jump.

"He means prison or a public lashing," James whispered to Ed.

"Say What!!" Ed cried looking at the patriot beside him and then back up at the Red coat, "What gives you the right!!"

"We have every right because this colony belongs to the King of England."  The Red coat sneered, "Now tell me,"  "what do you lads think your doing out this late, especially you," The British officer nodded at Ed,
"your much to small to be out."

Ed looked past the soldier gritted his teeth and exploded, "Don't call me small!!"

"Soldiers!" the officer shouted waving an arm to his men, and the troop marched over with bayonets in hand, "These two are Rebel spies seize them!"

The click of muskets being aimed only made Ed angrier with his situation and he slowly raised his hands in surrender.

"Thanks a lot Edward," James mumbled under his breath.

"Your welcome Mr. Hiller," Edward grinned and jerked his coat off revealing his automail that glinted in the lamp light.

"This is folly boy, now stand down," the British officer warned.

"You surrender!" Edward retorted with a crooked grin.

"How dare you," The Red coat seethed, "Halt now boy!" the Officer gave charge and snatched at Ed's arm to arrest him.

Ed's yellow eyes flashed and he grabbed the Officers wrist and flung him over his head in a ju-jitsu moved. "I'd like to see you try and make me," Ed smirked.

"amazing!" James smiled feeling his blood rush with excitement, maybe this Edward fellow wasn't a spy after all.

"Soldiers!" the officer bellowed from the ground.

"Run Ed!" James shouted while the troops started to drag him away.

"Who needs to run," Ed smiled broadly, "it takes up to much energy," Edward clapped his hands together and prepared to fight, when he noticed nothing happened.
"on second thought, Roy is always saying not to get involved in another countries politics,"

"Take those two rebels to the stocks, clap them in irons and lock them in the pillory! I want an example made out of that one!" the Officer on the ground thundered in rage.

"So this is Boston?"

"This is it alright,"

"Nice place, what year is it here?"

"1776?"

"right."

"You know this is all your fault," James grumbled and whined irritating Ed.

"Why don't you be quiet, if you hadn't called me a spy in the first place-

"Well how was I to know, with you wearing that Red coat!" James interrupted trying to glance over at his companion beside him who's head and hands were also locked in what was known as the pillory, a wooden post, with holes for securing the head and hands.

Edward rolled his shoulders back trying to ease the tension that the pillory put his neck in by holding him bent over. "So what do they do with spies here any ways?"

James tried to smile at the clueless boy, "well normally they hang them, but in our case, I think the worst they could do is give us a public flogging," his smile faded.

"Dang it! I can't stay here i don't even belong here James," Ed frowned jerking at his bonds.

"Look Edward, I know we met under odd circumstances,"

"About as odd as it gets," Edo gave a disgusted look at the boy who claimed to be a reporter.

"But I do owe you an apology,"  James twisted his head towards the alchemist.

"thanks, some good that will do us though, I can't even use my Alchemy to get out of here and-" Ed paused putting together the pieces as he remember, "James I think I got here in your revolutionary time, by coming through the Gate of Alchemy."

"Really Ed, sometimes I just don't understand a word you say," James sighed wishing he could call for the help of  Dr. Franklin.

"Just be quiet a moment and let me think," Edo harrumphed when at that moment something like the sound of an explosion flashed in front of the boys followed by a blinding bright light as a portal of sorts opened up.

The boys mouths dropped open and out of the light stepped a stringy green haired boy.

"Envy!" Ed shouted straining against the pillory.

"Nice fix you got yourself into" he sneered.

Ed glanced at the pillory in disgust, "SHut Up Envy what are you doing here!"

"I couldn't just let you escape from me, I'm not done with you yet!" The seething homunculus declared. "Gluttony eat him out of that contraption!" Envy ordered the other homunculus that had apparently been brought along for such an occasion as this.

"Boy and I thought the British were bad," James whispered to Ed who nodded and kept a watchful eye on gluttony as he munched throw the wood.

"Yes, freedom never felt so sweet" James smiled once the homunculus had eaten both he and Ed out of there stocks.

"Sorry I have to leave you so soon Mr. Hiller," Ed said and then turned to frown at his waiting enemies, "but I do have a battle to finish, and so does your country from what you've told me."

"Yes we do, It was a pleasure to meet you Edward," James warmly offered his hand and the two shook, each knowing they were never to cross paths again.
