There's basically four levels of school: Elementary, Middle, High and College.
Elementary is grades K(indergarten, you should know that one)-5, Middle is 6-8 and High is 9-12. College is not mandatory, but it ranges anywhere from 2 years for an Associate's degree to 8 for a PhD.

We have Kindergarten (not compulsory), Grundschule (elemantary) grades 1-4. Sekundarstufe I, grades 5-10 and Sekundarstufe II 11-13. But in the Sek I there is also Hauptschule (lowest) Realschule(middle) Gesamtschule (possible for all the ways) and Gymnasium (highest and way to university). I was on a Gesamtschule from where you also can go to university after 13 years like Gymnasium. It's a bit complicated but you get used to it.

Yeah, that's just a bit more complicated.

And I'm not gonna get into a debate about welfare/healthcare just yet.

Yeah, let the politicians have their way. I'm not in the mood for political debates at 11.40p.m. too.

Well, it's 5:45 Pm here. My sleep schedule is probably just about opposite of yours...

I don't think I really understand what you're saying.

I go to bed at about 6:00 AM my time. I get up at about 2:00 PM my time.
Let's see, Germany is 5 hours ahead, and my sleep schedule is seven hours behind, so...
We're two hours off of being opposite, unless you, too have a shitty sleep schedule.

Since its vacation I go to bed about 3-4 a.m. and sleep until 1-2 p.m. so I think it is almost like yours.

If you're 5 hours behind, then we have approximately a one-third overlap.

Something like that. But it is still strange to have the diffrent times. It's feel strange to imagine that the person you are talking to is sitting in the daylight while you have dark night.

I've seen all but the shotgunner before.
The reloading thing actually isn't all that hard to do, not like what revolver shooter does.

But it is still very impressive, right?

And do you know this too?

Yeah, I've seen those, I do believe the Swiss Mini-Gun just surpassed them for smallest firearm, though.
And yeah, it's really impressive. I wish I had the range time to get that good.

And I wish I could draw a gun at all(and I don't mean on Paint^^). Softair is nice but just not real.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-07-31 23:21:08 +0000 UTC]

No, no it's not real. I play paintball, I like it better because it doesn't try to be real.
Anyway, you'll have to get your bootay over to the States and get to shooting!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-07-31 23:30:42 +0000 UTC]

I want to try paintball too, but just like real guns and softair it's not that easy here. Getting a marker is no problem but to find an area to play is the problem. I'd have to go to France or the Netherlands for playing. And then there is the thing about money. Same and even more problem of a trip to the US. We aren't a very rich family, it's enough to survive but not to give me a shooting trip across the pond. And in addition to that my grandma, I'm living with her, is an absolute weapon hater.

Not bad but I prefer a Gedeck: Bier and Korn.

?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 00:30:46 +0000 UTC]

A Gedeck is composed of a beer and a Korn (a schnapps made of corn, wheat I think) served in two glasses.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 00:36:44 +0000 UTC]

"Made of corn, wheat I think"
It's either made of corn or wheat, not both.
But it sounds interesting.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 00:41:23 +0000 UTC]

It can be made of both but I forgot that you're US for you corn is the stuff of popcorn I meant grains, cereals, alomst all the stuff that grows on the field.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 00:49:18 +0000 UTC]

Oh. Yeah, over here corn is just corn.
Not everything else.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 00:56:24 +0000 UTC]

Here Korn is all the stuff. That are the little things that seem similar in our languages and when you don't remember , the other one won't or will missunderstand. I often find myself writing german Phrases which make no sense in English. That's the problem of English in school, you might learn how to analyze a book or to ask where the trainstation is but not really how to talk to people.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 00:59:02 +0000 UTC]

That's what talking to us is for. Hell, we don't really get taught other languages over here. We waltz through Spanish and expect everyone to just learn English.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 01:02:39 +0000 UTC]

Which is especially interesting when you consider, if it is right what my old Englisch teacher said, that almost German were chosen to be the american language.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 01:04:56 +0000 UTC]

It was. It was rather close, I believe. But English won out.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 01:11:03 +0000 UTC]

Maybe history had been diffrent if German won...

But that you almost don't learn other languages is part of the American boastfulness, not against you in person, but for us Euros this sometimes seems so exaggerated.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 01:13:57 +0000 UTC]

There are bilinguals, but it's by no means everyone.
And yeah, a lot of us are very proud. We have a reason to be. Not a right, but a reason.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 01:18:08 +0000 UTC]

I'm proud of my country too, but even though I don't have this tendency to say that we are the best like most americans do. And what is this "reason" for you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 01:23:40 +0000 UTC]

For me?
I do not have one.
My country, as is, is not better than any other. In fact, the best parts of my country come from other countries.
However, we do have the largest military. People feel like they can mouth off because of it. We've got the largest economy (though not for long).
The only thing we have that is special is the Constitution.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 01:28:28 +0000 UTC]

I'm really happy that I'm not talking to one of this "if you do not like my country you hate me in person" guys.^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 01:32:28 +0000 UTC]

My country?
One of the things I've always said is that pride in "American" things is retarded.
All of our stuff is borrowed.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 01:35:30 +0000 UTC]

This opinion is even more impressive!
But of course it's true.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 01:56:01 +0000 UTC]

Well, gee, thanks.
America is great, for many reasons. Most of all because it as the best of all cultures, and mostly, they live in harmony and peace.
A reason that cannot be counted in that fold is "identity". America is great for its lack of identity, not for any identity some might think it has.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 02:01:09 +0000 UTC]

Every country has it's pros and cons in my opinion, America is no exception of that.

I think I'm going to bed now, because I maybe go out with friends tomorrow to play snooker, and maybe have a drink, too.

So good night and maybe we can talk on tomorrow, or better today since it's 4.00 a.m. here already.

Not really correct spelling but at least a quiet good phonetic^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 16:43:44 +0000 UTC]

I don't have umlauts, you'll have to settle for phonetic.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 16:52:44 +0000 UTC]

But there aren't any Umlaute in "gute nacht" so this shouldn't be a problem at all^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 17:41:05 +0000 UTC]

I thought the "U" was an umlaut...
But I still got the "A" wrong...
Crap. Well, at least you can tell I didn't look it up.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 17:50:55 +0000 UTC]

Well, all the letter you have in english are no Umlaute. But every "modified" letter is an Umlaut . That are Γ„, Γ–, Ü. But instead of them you can write the normal letter with an e behind it: Γ€=ae
ΓΌ=ue and
ΓΆ=oe

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 17:59:35 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I didn't know that was acceptable.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 18:06:04 +0000 UTC]

It is. Even though it is unusual between Germans, but for most foreigners it is the only possible way.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nolo84 In reply to Seth45 [2008-08-01 18:07:13 +0000 UTC]

Well, that makes spelling "Peenemuende" much easier.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Seth45 In reply to Nolo84 [2008-08-01 18:10:37 +0000 UTC]

Exactly.

But why PeenemΓΌnde?
