The moth and butterfly here share similar meanings: the soul; as metamorphosis from caterpillar to winged creature, rebirth. The moth is also a lunar creature and carries lunar symbolism: the rhythm of cyclic time; enlightenment; the spiritual aspect of light in darkness.

This is the first time I'm seeing this one, somehow! It's quite lovely. The texture and use of the symbols is great.

I love this!
But I don't understand when you say "direct image transfer and Packing tape transfer. How, and where, did you use that really unique technique?

Thank you so much!
Okay, the "direct image transfer" was used for the cat. I found an old image in a magazine that I liked and cut it out. I applied acrylic gloss medium to the surface and laid the cat, image side down, onto the surface. After I make sure the paper is pressed flat against the surface I let it dry. Once dry, I sprayed water on the cut out and let the paper soften and then rub it off leaving the image of the cut out cat. here is a good video I came across [link] .
The packing tape transfer is fast and fun. On this piece the moths were transfered using this method. I found an image I liked and cut it out. On a clean work surface I laid the cut out face up and apply clear packing tape (more than one strip overlapped may be necessary) and burnish using scissor handles. Burnishing helps get the ink from the cut out in contact with the glue on the tape. After burnishing, soak the taped cut out in warm water for about five minutes (may need less time or maybe more time depending upon the paper). The paper from the cut will rub off leaving the ink on the packing tape. Trim the image and apply to your art surface like a collage. Note: packing tape is glossy. Apply several layers of matte medium if desiring a matte finish. Here is a quick tutorial that may help [link]
Sorry to be so wordy!

I like that you explained what the different creatures represent! Thanks for that.
Neat that it looks like rust on the cat, or the paint has been worn away. Cat looks amazing as do the butterflies, but my absolute favourite part of this is the trees in the background!
Wow, I didn't notice them at first, but man, do they look wicked.

I think I had someone request to know some of the symbolism of the piece, so I obliged.
The cat's body was a happy accident. Originally, it was a direct image transfer that went horribly wrong. Instead of scrapping the whole piece I decided to fill in the cat a bit and there you are.
I am pleased you like those trees!
Many thanks!

I make art because it is what I am supposed to do. There is a part of me who hopes to have a larger audience and have success with my artwork but if I don't, I will still be making art.
Thank you again!

You are sending out those beautiful swishes on "the wings" and who knows how far they will go and how long they will last. Thank you for keeping at the work with the gift you have been given. Strange how that larger audience tumbles into place. Of everyone I watch on dA, you seem to be the one with the uniqueness that "fitts" best for it.
Merry Christmas. Love your Santa! mel
