the worm and Sarah's step-mother do not have names in the movie. So in fanon the worm was named William and the step-mother Karen. Later in the novel she'd recieved name "Irene".

Ya know, I never did quite understand what this guy's intentions were. While he seemed glad that Sarah did not go straight to the castle, was it because he thought the castle and Jareth were dangerous, or was it because he knew exactly where Sarah wanted to go and intentionally sent her the wrong way? Because when she said she wanted to get through the Labyrinth, technically that sounds like she might just want to get out of it, or simply complete it, without the castle being a necessary stop along the way.

i guess the worm just wanted to make the game and Sarah's adventures in the Labyrinth more interesting.
And also the Underground's inhabitants and Jareth especially have peculiar sence of humour and specific notion of generousity and fairness...
