Description BLOG ETSY TUMBLR FACEBOOK

On my website I'm doing a series where I'm destashing my huge collection of scrap fabrics. ^-^ With every scrap I use up I make up a new little project for it, then give away the project pattern for free! I've amassed over fifty on my website so far, but since this one is a few months old I thought I would move it here as well.

Not only do a have a huge stash of leftover fabric, but I have a decorative paper addiction too x_x I used up some colored paper and scrapbook paper to create this notebook, since I love dabbling in bookbinding.

The pattern is a .pdf where the first half is instructions, and the second half is a printable pattern.

Enjoy!

How come you zigzag the fabric, like when you have to twist and turn for the round/point edge of the fabric?

I sew a zigzag around those tight curves and corners so the fabric will be less likely to ravel over time The thread covers up the edges a bit so the fibers are trapped.

but wouldnt it be difficult to twist the fabric around the corner while sewing with machine. like on the eyes part, how to control with the foot paddle?

When the corners and curves are really tight, I find it's easier to stop with the needle down in the fabric, then lift the presser foot, and pivot the fabric. This keeps the needle in the same position while you pivot the fabric. With tight curves you can sew a few stitches then pivot and keep repeating that around the shape
With things like the eyes, it's also helpful to have them basted some way such as with fusible web as mentioned in the tutorial. This holds the fabric in place so it won't move while you sew.

Fair point, thanks.

But i do one question to ask: how did you measure the two triangular gaps of the head top n bottom part?

everytime i made those gaps and sewed them and they didn't turn out the way i wanyed TTvTT. Any tips, please?

I assume you mean the darts found in the plush patterns that are 3D?
TeacupLion has a great little tutorial on how to sew darts -- hopefully that helps!

it's not how to sew, its more like how to make them. like how to make sure to move the pattern to get the darts.

Most of the larger darts in my patterns are formed by slightly overlapping two existing pattern pieces and combining them So pattern pieces that use an almond-like shape to form a sphere -- if they're overlapped in the center it forms a dart on the top and bottom.

ok, but let's say not a sphere, like other shape, for example, thedarts on ur bat plushie or the skullcandy kitty?

Those are actually modified spheres I changed them so they're more like ovals or more flat, but they're still overlapped the same way.

...Even with the skull candy cat? Cause I know it took me like three times/fabrics (good thing I could reuse them) to get the sphere I wanted I didn't exactly overlapped, I mean I tried, but it didn't turn out the way I wanted, like howdy you predict the closeness of the darts with you overlapped?

Yeah The Sugar Skull Kitty had a little more manipulation to get to the end result, but it did start with a sphere.
The amount of overlap I do usually depends on if I want to do applique in the area so I need more flat area to sew on.
Or if the overlapped piece needs to be a certain width to get the final size I'm going for.

Can you do with with no sewing machineΒ

Yes, definitely! For step 2 you'd want to use a hand applique stitch, which is something like this:Β www.holiday-crafts-and-creatio…
And in step 12 where you sew all the pages into the book, you'll want to use a thick needle and thread and use a coptic stitch, which is something like this:Β www.booklyn.org/education/copt…
